The Gift of a Queen

In the grand city of Cordoba, during the golden age of Al-Andalus, there lived a young jeweler named Tariq. He was known for his delicate craftsmanship and the beauty of his creations. His finest work was a necklace commissioned by Queen Aisha, the wife of the Caliph.

The necklace was unlike any other—it had a sapphire as deep as the ocean, surrounded by pearls that shimmered like moonlight. When Tariq presented it to the Queen, she was so pleased that she rewarded him with gold beyond his wildest dreams.

But as he walked home that night, an old beggar approached him.

“Spare a coin, young man,” the beggar pleaded.

Tariq, feeling proud of his wealth, scoffed and said, “I worked for this fortune, old man. Go earn your own.”

The beggar sighed. “Wealth is fleeting, but kindness lasts forever.”

Tariq ignored him and walked away, unaware that his fate had just been sealed.

The Disappearance of the Necklace

The very next day, the Queen’s maid rushed into the palace halls, her face pale with fear.

“My Queen! The necklace is gone!” she cried.

Panic spread through the palace. The Caliph ordered a search of every room, every corridor. The guards questioned the servants, but the necklace was nowhere to be found.

Rumors spread like wildfire. Some whispered that a jealous noblewoman had stolen it. Others believed it had been cursed.

And then, late that night, Tariq received an unexpected visitor.

A Haunting Message

A hooded figure stood at his doorstep, his hands gloved, his voice low. “The necklace you made is now lost. But it was never meant to stay in one place. Its fate is written.”

Tariq’s heart pounded. “Who are you?”

The figure chuckled. “Someone who knows the curse.”

And with that, he disappeared into the darkness.

Tariq could not sleep that night. He kept hearing the beggar’s words—"Wealth is fleeting, but kindness lasts forever."

The Truth Revealed

The next morning, the city guards came to Tariq’s workshop. “By order of the Caliph, you are under suspicion for the theft of the Queen’s necklace!”

Tariq’s blood ran cold. “I did no such thing!”

But no one believed him. He was dragged to the palace and thrown before the Caliph.

“Where is the necklace, Tariq?” the ruler demanded.

“I swear upon my life, my Lord, I do not know,” Tariq pleaded.

The Caliph studied him for a long moment, then sighed. “You have until the next full moon to return it. If you fail, your life will be forfeit.”

A Race Against Time

Tariq was desperate. He searched every corner of the city, questioned jewelers, merchants, and travelers. But the necklace was nowhere to be found.

On the final night before the full moon, Tariq wandered the empty streets, lost in thought. And then—he saw him.

The old beggar.

Tariq ran to him. “Old man! You spoke of kindness. You spoke of fate. Please, tell me—where is the necklace?”

The beggar smiled. “You had the power to give, but you chose not to. And so, the necklace chose another path.”

Tariq fell to his knees. “Please! I will do anything to make this right.”

The beggar nodded and whispered, “Go to the river at dawn.”

The Redemption

As the sun rose, Tariq reached the riverbank. And there, caught in the reeds, was the Queen’s necklace. Its pearls glistened in the morning light.

Tariq’s hands trembled as he retrieved it. He rushed to the palace and presented it to the Caliph.

The Queen gasped. “Where did you find it?”

Tariq hesitated. “Fate brought it back.”

The Caliph studied him carefully. Then, instead of punishing him, he said, “You have learned a lesson greater than gold.”

From that day forward, Tariq changed. He gave freely, shared his wealth, and became known not as Tariq the Jeweler, but Tariq the Generous.

As for the beggar—he was never seen again. Some say he was an angel. Others believe he was a test from Allah.

But Tariq knew the truth—wealth is fleeting, but kindness lasts forever.
