Ten Seconds of Forever

A stolen glance, and time stood still.. 💫❤️

By IMONPublished 8 months ago • 2 min read

The afternoon sun was melting into soft gold, casting long shadows on the busy city street. People hurried past, their faces fixed on their phones, their thoughts tangled in a thousand daily worries. But in the middle of that rushing crowd, Mira stood still, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.

She hadn’t planned to come here today — the park where she often came to think, to escape the noise of her small apartment and the loneliness she tried to hide. But today was different. Today, something invisible pulled her forward, towards a moment she could never have imagined.

Mira’s eyes scanned the crowd, hoping for nothing and everything at once. She wasn’t even sure what she was looking for. And then, suddenly, she saw him.

He was sitting on a bench beneath the ancient oak tree, his head tilted back, eyes closed, feeling the warm breeze on his face. His dark hair caught the sunlight, making it shine like a halo. He looked peaceful — like someone who belonged to a different world, one without pain or worry.

Without thinking, Mira found herself walking toward him, each step light and certain. Her breath caught as their eyes met, a flash of surprise in his gaze that quickly turned into something softer. A smile. The kind of smile that melts the coldest winter inside you.

For a moment, the world around them disappeared. The honking cars, the chatter of children playing, the distant bark of a dog — none of it mattered. It was just the two of them, connected by a single stolen glance.

Ten seconds. That was all it took.

In those ten seconds, Mira felt her heart break and heal all at once. She saw in his eyes a story — a story of loneliness, hope, and a quiet strength that mirrored her own. It was as if they had both been waiting for this moment, even if they didn’t know it yet.

The stranger finally spoke, his voice soft but steady. “Hi, I’m Aarav.”

“Mira,” she replied, almost a whisper.

They talked for hours, as the sun slowly dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with shades of pink and orange. Words came easily between them, like old friends reunited after years apart. They shared pieces of their lives — dreams, fears, small joys, and deep sorrows.

Mira told him about her love for books and how writing made her feel less alone. Aarav shared stories of his travels and the places that had changed him forever. They laughed at silly jokes and fell silent at moments that felt too sacred for words.

As the evening grew colder, Aarav reached out and gently took Mira’s hand in his. The touch was electric — a promise, a question, a beginning all at once.

“I don’t want this moment to end,” Mira admitted, her voice trembling.

“Neither do I,” Aarav said, squeezing her hand. “Maybe this is our forever — even if it’s just ten seconds longer.”

Under the blanket of stars, Mira felt a warmth she hadn’t known in years. The fear that had kept her heart locked away slowly melted, replaced by a fragile hope.

Sometimes, she realized, life gives you these small, unexpected gifts — a glance, a smile, a touch — that change everything.

And all it takes is ten seconds of forever.
