How America Became A Superpower?
The modern United States is the most powerful country in human history. With over 800 military bases and 37% of global military spending, the United States has become the leader of a vast interconnected global system that has helped usher in an era of unprecedented prosperity and low levels of conflict. To understand America’s position in the world, and why it’s so pivotal for world politics as we know it, you have to go back to the country’s founding — back to when America wasn’t a global power in any sense of the word. During the first 70 years of its existence, the United States expanded in both territory and influence in North America eventually reaching the Pacific Ocean in a wave of expansionism that resulted in the wholesale slaughter of the indigenous people who populated the continent. But early Americans were deeply divided as to whether the country should expand beyond the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. This became a major debate after the civil war, when some leaders, like post-war Secretary of State Seward, argued that America should push to become a global power.

In 1959, Captain Ilhan Durupanar, an Army Captain, embarked on an aerial reconnaissance mission on behalf of NATO. His objective was to capture photographs from his aircraft, aiding in the mapping of a remote area in the Turkish Highlands. Not long before this, the terrain had undergone significant changes due to three powerful earthquakes. As a result, the government required updated imagery. The flight proceeded as usual until, unexpectedly, Captain Durupanar observed an intriguing and peculiar formation amidst the rocky landscape below. Intrigued, he wasted no time in photographing the unusual sight. When the film was developed, the captain was astounded to discover what appeared to be remnants of a massive ship situated far inland and astonishingly, at an altitude of 6,500 feet above sea level. The question arose: what could a ship possibly be doing in such an unlikely location? Unbeknownst to him at the time, he may have inadvertently stumbled upon a solution to a great biblical enigma that has perplexed humanity for millennia the mystery of Noah's Ark.

On April 14th, 1912 at 11:40 p.m., the RMS Titanic experienced a catastrophic event that ultimately led to its demise three hours later at 2:20 a.m. on April 15th. The largest ship of its time disappeared beneath the ice-cold surface of the Atlantic Ocean, taking with it over 1500 lives, which accounted for more than two-thirds of all the people on board. The commonly held belief was that the ship had collided with an iceberg, but recent findings by scientists have debunked this theory. The Titanic was an impressive feat of engineering, measuring 882 feet 9 inches long, 92 feet wide, and 175 feet tall, with a usable volume of 46,000 328 tons. The ship had four massive smokestacks, each weighing 60 tons and extending 81.5 feet above the deck. The cost of the ship's construction was 7.5 million dollars, which, when adjusted for modern exchange rates and inflation in 2016, would be equivalent to 166 million dollars. The ship was built by 3,000 men working six days a week from 6:00 in the morning, and it took 26 months to complete. Unfortunately, eight people died during the building process, and 246 were injured.
