JOZANI FOREST

The largest forest in Zanzibar is found in the northern part of Unguja Island covering 50km² (19 sq mi), the issue about this forest is that it has the rare breed of monkey known as Zanzibar red colobus which is only found in that forest worldwide. The JOZANI forest has its history as it was founded as a forest reserve in the 1960s before upgrading the national park in the 1980s, it was in 1984 when it was designated as JOZANI Chwaka Bay National Park. Initially, it was a hunting area for travelers who used to come to Zanzibar to hunt leopards at that time. Other animals found are the African goshawk, mangrove kingfisher, Cassina JOZANI frog, African civet, and many others.

THE STONE TOWN

The oldest part of Zanzibar located at the western part of the coast of Unguja, it was the former capital of the sultan of Zanzibar and the center of the spice trade as well as the slave trade in the 19th century. The Stone Town has historical and artistic importance in East Africa and due to its heritage, the Stone Town is the most visited tourist attraction in Zanzibar.

OLD FORT

The oldest building also known as the Arab Fort located in Stone Town Zanzibar was originally built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and later rebuilt by Oman Arabs in the 18th century after expelling the Portuguese in 1699.

During the 19th century, it was used as a garrison and prison and also as a terminal of the Zanzibar railways from 1905-1928.

HOUSE OF WONDERS

It's an icon of Zanzibar stone town, its old and handmade carved doors are said to be the largest in East Africa. The House of Wonders was built for ceremonial purposes by the sultan of Zanzibar earlier in 1883. In 2012 the balcony of the building collapsed leading to the closing of the building for public visitation. Although it has not been opened officially since the collapse, you can still admire the building from the outside as it is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Zanzibar.
