“Open Sesame!”

To Ali Baba’s astonishment, the rock split apart, revealing the mouth of a secret cave. The thieves entered, and after a while, they came out, the leader once again saying, “Close Sesame!”, sealing the entrance. When they rode away, Ali Baba cautiously approached the rock, repeated the magic words, and the cave opened before him. Inside lay heaps of gold coins, sparkling jewels, and priceless treasures.

Ali Baba reluctantly told him about the cave, warning him to be careful. But Cassim’s greed overcame his sense. The next day, he rushed to the forest, found the cave, and entered — taking as much treasure as he could. But in his excitement, he forgot the magic words to exit. When the thieves returned, they found him trapped and killed him instantly.

The Forty Thieves Discover the Truth

The thieves knew someone else had discovered their secret. When they traced Cassim’s burial and learned of Ali Baba’s existence, they plotted to kill him. But fate had placed a guardian angel in Ali Baba’s home — his faithful and clever servant, Morgiana.

Morgiana’s Bravery

The thieves’ leader disguised himself as an oil merchant and arrived at Ali Baba’s house with forty large jars — thirty-nine of which hid armed thieves, and one filled with oil to complete the disguise. Morgiana, suspicious of the man’s manner, discovered the hidden thieves inside the jars. Acting swiftly, she boiled oil and poured it into each jar, ending the threat.

Later, the leader made one final attempt to kill Ali Baba during a dinner feast. Morgiana, recognizing him, performed a dance before plunging a dagger into his heart — saving her master once again.

The Treasure Becomes a Legacy

In gratitude, Ali Baba freed Morgiana and offered her in marriage to his son. He then decided to keep the treasure as a family secret, using it wisely to help the poor and live a life of generosity.
