The last penny was minted at the Philadelphia mint on November 12, 2025. The last pennies were not meant for circulation. They will be auctioned off in December.
How Much is the Last Penny Worth
Estimates range from 1 million to 5 million. That's a far cry from one cent.
The Final Pennies
The final pennies have a special "Omega" stamp on them distinct from all the others.
However, if you want one you will have to bring your bank account with you.
The "Omega" symbol, the final letter of the Greek alphabet, was used to signify the end of the 232-year era of the US penny.
Each of these will be part of the 232 special three-coin set, (which also included a 24 karot gold penny version. Experts say the sets could go for, between $10,000 and $20,000. The final set will include the original dies used to strike the coins. The final set will include two pennies - one from the Philadelphia mints and one from the Denver Mint, along with the 24 karot gold penney version. There will be 232 sets auctioned off in total.

The Final Pennies
These pennies bear the special "Omega" stamp making them distinct from all the others. The final last five pennies also received the "Omega" stamp. The 232 sets represent each of the years the penny was in existance (1792-2024)
Three additional pennies wer made for displays at the US Treasury and other institutions.
How Does That Affect The US Not Having The All Popular Penny
Well aside from the tooth fairy and kids piggy bankm it will also be an adjustment for merchants and banks as well.
It was just last week, that they minted the last pennies, and already there has been changes. Our bank a Federal Credit Union, said at one branch they had no pennies, that they had called the Brinks truck to pick up their last bags of pennies.
The Penny Is Finally Getting The Respect It Deserves
As like people, the US penny is getting more respect in death than it did in life.
In life, the penny had very little respect, you could find them laying on the ground, left in change machines, and laying on the ground in parking lots. People didn't care much about the penny, and they thought of it, more of an annoyance, than real currency.
However Now It Has Gotten The Respect It Deserves
In death, the US penny has gotten the respect it has always deserved.
We got four rolls of pennies from a branch of our bank on Friday, and today, they had no pennies at all. No longer are people leaving them in the chage machines at the self checkout. There are no pennies on the ground. We were interested in getting the pennies for my Grandchildren, who are 18, and 13. We are saving all the pennies we can get, after awhile they will get to be scarce, as people are hanging on to them.
What Does That Mean In Terms of Retail
That means the retail stores will have to round up to the nearest nickel. In the meantime I will go to the store, and get my favorite muffins.with cash. In the change is the all popular "penny", which is getting the respect it finally deserves after 232 years of being minted.
So Why Did They Discontinue The Penny
It costs the US Mint approximately 0.037 (3.7 cents), to mint a penny, according to its 2024 annual report. The cost is higher than the penny's face value, and it has been for the 19th consectutive year, driven by the rising costs of materials like zinc and copper.
So Sadly It Had Go
How Much Does It Cost To Mint The Nickel
The total cost to produce a single nickel is around 14 cents. That is almost three times the face value of the nickel. The high cost is influenced by the high cost of copper and nickel as well as other expenses incurred by minting the nickel.
What Does That Mean?
Nickel Watch Your Back !!!
Note- We are also saving nickels for my Grandchildren, in case the government is in a back stabbing mood, on saving money.
What Is Your Opinion On The Penny Not Being Minted Anymore
It's the end of an era.

Yeah, bye-bye penny. Sad, really. We won't see $9.99 on price tags anymore. It will have to be either $9.95 or $10.05, which is more likely because of the inflation and against the human psychology.
