Yummy Mummies
Reality show taken to a whole new level

Unlike most young women my age, I am absolutely obsessed with babies. I have no clue if this stems from my lack of own children or my great desire to one day have children but I love any reality show that revolves around babies. I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant, A Baby Story, etc. So when I saw that Netflix had a show called Yummy Mummies, a show about these glamorous, very posh, very sassy mommies-to-be in Australia, I knew I absolutely had to see what it was about.
And need I say less, I was definitely not disappointed by what I found.
The first episode starts out with an introduction to Maria who is completely obsessed with brand names. She has an entire nursery filled with onesies and bottles and shoes with brand names like Burberry and Versace and Dolce & Gabbana. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears! I'm sitting here thinking, despite my lack of experience, I know that babies are messy and get changed several times a day and will be lucky if they can wear even half of the clothes you get when they are first born because they grow so fast. This woman had enough brand name baby clothing that the cost could rival my student loans. The absurdity of this drew me in to this show with a sense of fascinated ah and perhaps even a bit of disgust?
Quickly after, you meet the trio of mom's who started their own hashtag on Instagram of #yummymummies. You have Lorinska--the tall and hilarious--Rachel--the firecracker--and Jane--the seasoned two-time mum who dishes out wisdom. They are fabulous and BFFs and the more I watched the more I felt like I was one of the girls.
Also, the more I watched the more I realized maybe I am a little too obsessed with babies(?) or the more likely option that I had common knowledge (or at least what I thought to be common knowledge) that these very soon-to-be-moms didn't have. At one point Maria asks if the baby will want toys right away and Lorinska assumes that as soon as the baby is out she will go back to her size eight model body. It was like watching a train wreck that I couldn't turn away from. I had to know what happened next. I had become obsessed with their spoiled lives. I craved it.
The further into the show I got the stronger the rivalry grew between Maria and the yummy mummy trio. Maria had this need to prove that she was better than the others despite having this ridiculous notion of what it meant to be a mother (babies are not accessories!!) and that the universe practically revolved around her. At the baby showers, things start to turn real savage. Maria's mother gets an impersonator of Lorinska to come to Lorinska's baby shower and it's the most insulting thing I've ever seen! The fact that as a guest they even thought that would be an appropriate gift was astounding! And yet I still couldn't stop watching this show!
About mid season the mom's all have their babies and (OMG) these are such cute little babies with their cute chubby little cheeks and adorable little fingers.

Despite all of the beautiful unbelievable drama, I think the side commentary was my favorite part of this show. The ladies could be so savage and honest and it was so refreshing to see these women just be women, so open and expressive.
Three things that I, surprisingly, learned from watching Yummy Mummies:
- Push Presents: A present that the father gives to the new mum for pushing out their brand new bundle of joy. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this, because ladies let's be honest, pushing a baby out is a big deal and I'm not gonna complain for receiving a "yay you did!" type gift from my partner. But these ladies are receiving far more than what I would consider a "present." Jane get's a Land Rover for heaven's sake! (Yes it's baby number two, but a car for pushing out a baby?!?!?!? Oh how nice it must be to have money!)
- Babymoon: It's like a honeymoon, but it's a babymoon. You and your significant other run away on a small vacation, your last big get-away before the baby arrives. This sounds like a really nice idea, but I'm not sure if it's practical? I don't know, maybe it's something I'll give a go one day?
- Sip-n-See: It's basically a small party that the new parents throw for their friends and family to introduce their new baby. A cute and sweet idea. But probably not practical for all new parents? Especially those who can't afford to hire a party planner.
So, naturally, several months later when I saw that there was a Yummy Mummies: Season 2 I jumped on it right away.

The best part of season two was that Maria was no longer in it. Her over-the-top neediness was almost palpable during the first season and she brought such negative energy to the table (though don't get me wrong, Maria's attitude added so much drama to the show it was a beautiful hot mess).
In season two, our yummy mummy trio (Lorinksa, Rachel and Jane) is enjoying the new mommy life and thinking about baby two (for Lorinska and Rachel) and a possible baby number three (for Jane).
Insert Iva, a new yummy mommy who's counting down the days to her due date and a woman who is not afraid to embrace her sexuality. The new dynamic between these women's has a real girl-group vibe. And it's nice to see women click and connect about their babies and bodies and experiences of being a mother. And I can only hope to have such a close connection with other mother's when my time comes.
If you're looking for a show that is filled with rivalry, girl-drama, babies and money this is the show for you. It's so good and ridiculous and beautiful. I highly recommend this show as a quick binge.
