Will Smith: The true message behind his slapping Chris Rock

There is a growing sentiment coming from those who are discussing the slap seen around the world on Oscar night. When Will Smith went on stage and put his hands on Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinket Smith's bald head it spoke volumes and seems to tie in with the word spoken out of the couple's own mouths.

Their defenders are accusing people of psychoanalyzing the couple without proper credentials but you don't have to be a mental health expert to notice what is thrown in your face straight from the horse's mouth. Jada once shared on her podcast Red Table Talk that her grandmother taught her to masturbate when she was 9 years old which speaks volumes.

During an interview with People, Will admitted that he and his wife had an open marriage because Jada grew up with different values. Each of them has said their parents had troubled marriages and these statements were made in public so no one is getting into the couple's private affairs.

The elephant in the room is making itself known

Having said that an increasing number of people have shared their opinion that Will is addressing something on a deeper level and are talking about that proverbial elephant in the room. Popular opinion says Smith slapped Rock because he needed to feel in control of a situation regarding his wife and another man. Will has allowed his spouse to set the pace in the most intimate part of their marriage even though he does not seem to be in full agreement with an open relationship.

His admission that she grew up differently while discussing the situation suggests that no matter what issues his own parents may have had an open marriage was not a part of it. Will cannot control who Jada sleeps with because it is her decision. Smith's first wife Sheree Zampino says that the actor does not believe in divorce so she is the one who filed to end their marriage.

This indicates that Will is dedicated to his union with Jada come hell or high water and compromising just as many spouses do. The difference is that regular married folk don't have the entire world watching them and they do not have to defend their actions on such a high level. Will is a man who seems to have it all. He is world-famous as a rapper, television personality, movie star, and Oscar winner with a beautiful talented wife and three children.

In spite of all of that success, his spouse is letting the world know that he is not man enough to satisfy her so she needs adultery and sex toys to keep her going. Jada admitted in front of her daughter that she has been a sex addict from a young age and owns a lot of sex toys. Some people are saying that when this is added to the fact that she cheats on her spouse it gives the impression that Smith is not able to satisfy his wife's needs. Based on the different angles of the various videos from Oscar night it appears that "Jill" (Shortened version of Jada and Will) were initially laughing along with Rock and that Smith only made his move after the countenance of his wife's face dropped. Opinions on this situation vary with some people still applauding Smith even though he apologized to Rock.

The one thing that fans can take away from this situation with certainty is this. Fame, fortune, and notoriety do not stop people from being human. The public falls in love with the characters that are being portrayed by actors and often forgets that it is only a facade.

The world at large recalls Jada as feisty Lena James on A Different World and Will Smith from Philly who moved to Bell Air. We do not know these individuals or other celebrities personally and should not be alarmed at their behavior off-screen.

Even so, the old adage of "To whom much is given much is required" still rings true. Chris could have shown more sensitivity and not made an inappropriate joke. Will could have handled it much differently and Jada should consider before she puts all her business in the street how it makes her husband look and more importantly how it makes him feel.
