Who is the strongest and most powerful Jedi in the Star Wars universe after Luke Skywalker?

(Here I talk specifically about the six movies of the original two trilogies, and not about the expanded Star Wars universe and the last trilogy. The Jedi from the expanded universe will need a series of articles about each of them, at minimum, to cover properly.)

My answer: Probably Master Yoda.

Before you say something, let's discuss the other potential candidates for this heavily contested position and their power levels among other things:

You have got some Jedi like Mace Windu — deadly skill, iron will, no nonsense. Obi-Wan Kenobi is right up there as well, especially with that surgical precision and battlefield strategical ability. Anakin Skywalker? He is a straight-up force of nature. If raw power had a face, it would be his face — just with way too much emotional turbulence written on it.

Then, there we have Ben Solo, Leia Skywalker, and Rey Skywalker. Power-wise? Absolutely top shelf. But they were still rough around the edges — like high-performance engines without a proper tuning. The potential was there, it was just not fully realized.

And Ahsoka Tano? Yeah... not even in the conversation. For very obvious reasons. She is not a Jedi.

Honorable mentions will go to Dooku, Quinlan Vos, and Yaddle. Each of them brought something serious to the table — power, skill, and presence.

In my opinion, it really comes down to this core group. Now, Yoda? He is either the most powerful, or sitting just behind Luke Skywalker. That is it. No one else is in that league.

Why? For starters, in terms of midichlorian count, Yoda was second only to the Skywalkers who were in the Jedi Order — at least before the events of the Clone Wars. And then, there is the small detail that he is nearly a thousand years old. That is, ten centuries of almost nonstop leveling up in nearly every aspect of being a Jedi — in knowledge, in mastery, in technique, in discipline, in Force wisdom, all of it, and probably much more.

Yoda was not just powerful. He was with developed full potential, and refined to perfection. Like, if the Force had a grandmaster difficulty setting, Yoda would be the one who coded it.

You pretty much cannot beat him. Yoda is, arguably the greatest lightsaber duelist in the history of the Galaxy — he is fluid, precise, and untouchable, among other things. And on top of that, he mastered nearly every known (as far as we know) Force technique, like, it is as if he had a cheat code for the entire Jedi archive.

The only reason Darth Sidious technically “won” their showdown in the third movie was pure battlefield advantage — the tight quarters, the high ground nonsense, and the Senate pods flying around like popcorn.

Yoda sized up the situation, realized that it was a rigged game, and made the smart move to withdraw. It was not a real defeat — it was a calculated strategical move.
