Weapons

Review

Weapons was the talk of the internet when it first came out, but the response seemed to be like a flash in the pan. Honestly that’s part of the reason I put some distance between my watch and the film's release date unless it's something I’m dying to see. Not that I ever believe public opinion anyway but it's nice to see if the film's quality holds up against the internet’s attention span.

Any horror/thriller movie that involves children is inherently creepy and I really can’t describe why but especially when children narrate shit it's super weird.

A bunch of kids disappeared and that’s an insane way to start a movie, also a great way to start a mystery by leaving one kid out.

Why did you park across the street from your own house when there is plenty of parking in front of your house? Look if a literal angry mob is after me my car is going to be as accessible as possible. Going straight home is more important than being able to have a drink and even considering answering this door after you get a threatening phone call is crazy. I do not feel bad for stupid people and she is making it very difficult to feel sorry for her.

Why do people always do this in movies? Storm out of their houses and leave the doors open? You are asking a freak to slip into your house and murder you in your sleep and ya know what? That would be your fault.

She’s so hostile…dude needs to chill. I get that it's a stressful and very upsetting situation but this guy just wants to help her and she’s being so aggressive. She’s literally being such a bitch she is not likeable at all. Her saving grace right now is that the actress is hot.

Hey so watching the kids enter the school you are no longer working at and following one of them home is super fucking creepy my dude.

Oh his ex girlfriend is CRAZY….bro has a bit of a type.

This bitch does not know when to stop, and she needs to stop. This isn't a helpful teacher, this isn’t dedicated to her students, this is creepy, unhinged behavior and I wouldn't let her back into a classroom ever.

WHY WAS YOUR CAR UNLOCKED. Why is she so dumb? I simply can not feel bad for stupid people and she might be the dumbest main character I've ever seen in my life.

Awe Archer sleeps in his son’s bed. That’s the saddest thing I've ever seen and I totally get it. The fact that he's still able to function at all is incredible.

I totally get his anger but the only connection is that they were all in her class. She is definitely a mess but that doesn’t mean she did anything to those babies. But I totally get this guy's frustration and anger. If my baby just disappeared I would be catatonic, or homicidal and there is simply no in between.

See this guy is actually investigating and being helpful, is he a lot? Absolutely, but he’s actually doing something. He’s tracking the kids' movements. He is pulling up city plans and attempting to find where they all gathered. That said he is doing too much at this teacher. And he’s the one with red paint in the back of his truck right now.

Oh he’s an alcoholic…oh so yeah Donna’s reaction was entirely appropriate I take it back. And his girlfriends father is his boss…that’s rough buddy

They were planning for a baby, he drinks and cheats on her with his ex-girlfriend. The only one in this movie I’m rooting for so far is the dad.

What a crackhead. James needs to get his shit together. I'm trying to figure out how he fits into this story. Is he related to one of the missing kids, is he just a witness to the weird shit that is happening in this town? A good horror/thriller film has you asking questions all the way through and this one certainly does.

I think it's weird that the parents of the only kid still here are catatonic….exactly what got them to this state because their baby is fine.

Holy shit it has to be Alex, he’s gotta be the source. That is actually the only thing that currently makes sense.

I KNEW IT…all the missing kids are in this house. Holy shit damn this is a good movie. Now why would you barricade them in there? I need so many answers

I get switching perspectives and all but this might be too many. I think switching povs every 20 minutes is a little excessive. At first it paced out the narrative really well, but now it feels like it's slowing the story a bit.

Kind of getting Smile vibes from this creepy clown looking lady and the rabid-ness of everyone that seems to come in contact with this house.

I knew it was some supernatural shit, it had to be. 17 kids disappearing at 2:17 had to be some ritualistic bullshit.

This is the first perspective that actually offered answers so it better be the last new pov. You can switch back but one more perspective will in fact be too much.

Why would you keep pushing on a door that has a lock instead of continuing to run? Why is she so stupid? Her fight or flight instincts suck and honestly survival of the fittest at this point.

K fine Alex is a valid perspective. AS LONG AS IT STAYS HERE. I hate when books do this too. Introduce your people and then leave it alone. No story needs this many perspectives. Game of Thrones does it too much too, but at least perspectives die off in that. In a film 6 is simply too many.

I need to know why this creepy lady is doing this though. I really do need a why. Oh she’s literally relying on the youth of these children that's the why.

Alex being the one to save the day is great.

The way that the whole film was about the kids but we didn’t actually spend a lot of screen time on them is really fantastic storytelling.

Happy ending I guess? Incredible film. The pacing was decent, I do think we could have cut the cops perspective, it wasn't exactly necessary to the story and it didn’t offer much of anything. Other than that the tension was fantastic. The way the story unfolded was very well thought out. 9/10 definitely worth the watch.
