When Venom came out in 2018, I don’t think anyone expected it to be a trilogy. No one expected to be a good one. And yet here we are with a third venom movie in. The comfort is that we were right, and the trilogy as a whole is not good. The first one was, Tom Hardy was a pretty great casting choice and it was a fun, funny comic book movie. Then Let There Be Carnage came out and it was terrible. You could cut out the entire second act of the film and the movie would still make perfect sense, that’s bad writing. So here we are with Venom: The Last Dance, will it be on par with the first one? Or will it go the way of Let There Be Carnage and join the list of terrible superhero movies that came out this year?
Oh we are starting with an exposition dump…that's certainly a choice.
Why did you feel the need to reference the MCU and the multiverse at all? They are so far separated from each other and it doesn’t make any sense to reference it.
There is so much going on in this script. We’ve got the creators of the symbiotes trying to track them down, we’ve got the scientists trying to study them and apparently use them for medical purposes, and we’ve got Eddie and Venom running away from the trackers. Oh also all of the other symbiote pieces.
Look the Venom taking over a horse scene was good. But that’s about all this movie has going for it right now.
Oh No, Eddie and Venom got separated, there is a decent amount of tension in this scene. You can see how much the two of them have bonded when Venom is more concerned about Eddie’s life than he is about keeping the Codex hidden.
I do love that they have committed to Eddie looking hungover and fucked up for 3 whole movies.
Eddie stumbles upon this hippie family that's camping. Eddie is tore up, and Venom continues to be hilarious. Venom singing along with this family as Eddie sits there wanting to escape is definitely the best scene so far.
So Eddie and Venom are trying to get to New York and they have to travel from Mexico, they are going through Vegas. Eddie actually looks halfway decent for the first time in 3 movies. Eddie and Venom are separated once again but this time Venom is caught and Eddie is knocked out. The pacing is relatively decent, and they have set up all of the events pretty well.
I don’t know. I guess my one major complaint is that there are 3 venom movies and that feels really unnecessary especially since the first one was actually good, not everything needs to be a trilogy.
And then we are actually following this hippie family for some reason, that feels like overstuffing the script unnecessarily. They truly were not needed.
One of the scientists free Venom and gives him back to Eddie, that was sweet. These stupid soldiers think shooting at these giant alien monsters is going to do anything, they have learned literally nothing. I love that the symbiotes are bonding with the scientists it's a cool touch.
So we did a whole flashback with this scientist lady and then the bonded symbiote that helps save Eddie is bonded to…a different, extremely random scientist lady.
It really feels like these writers were just trying to create new characters for really no reason. The script is filled with too many people that serve no function. They are also giving them a decent amount of screentime like we are supposed to care about them but we just don’t.
Venom and Eddie take on all of the alien trackers and Venom sacrifices himself for Eddie and to keep the codex safe. For some reason even at the very end we were asked to give a shit about these scientist women. No one wants more venom movies, we sure as hell don’t want symbiote movies without venom. Whatever you are thinking of doing Sony…don’t. This was a very lazy end to this trilogy. It so desperately wanted to set up other things while also wrapping up Eddie and Venom. The unfortunate part is that they didn’t do any of that well. They should have focused only on Eddie and Venom, there was too much going on and none of it was executed well. Eddie restarts his life in New York, ya know where Spiderman lives. The film also should have ended with Eddie in the hospital, why are we flashbacking while walking through the city using clips from the movie I just fucking watched? It was so so lazy. 4/10 at best because the humor is great and Tom Hardy remind a good choice.
