One to Beam Up

By Robert I DavisPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

The sun setting over the dessert, the bright lights of Las Vegas turn on, Lisa, her sister and her father walk down the strip. "Dad, what are we doing, were just walking down the street?"

"Lisa, I told you we’re waiting for your mom to get out of her seminar and then we’re going to see the sharks at the Mirage hotel and dinner at the Bellagio."

"But how long is that going to be? There's a Star Trek Exhibit in the MGM Grand and they have a life size replica of the USS Enterprise bridge and teleportation deck."

"Honey we're here for your mom, not to go off and play in one of your fantasy worlds."

Lisa slumps a little as her sister tries to pull her hand away. "Stop struggling, if I can't get away neither can you."

They walk down the strip coming crossed the fountains of Bellagio, just as the show starts. "Ugh, I thought we were going to be here with mom for dinner?"

"Well then don't tell her we saw it ok?"

Using the distraction Lisa quickly takes her sisters hand and places it in her dad’s and then turns and makes a run for it.

Walking into the MGM Grand, Lisa’s eyes open wide taking in all the shiny. Picking up her pace as she sees the sign to the Star Trek exhibit, Lisa gets up to a run as she gets to the ticket counter. Reaching into her backpack Lisa pulls out a $20 bill and places it on the counter. "One please." The lady stood up and leaned over the counter, looking down on Lisa.

"Um, I'm sorry honey but how old are you?"

"Thirteen, almost fourteen." Lisa says with a grin.

"I'm sorry dear, but you must be accompanied by an adult to see this exhibit. Is your mom or dad around?"

"Nooooo there not. They didn’t want to see anything cool, they’re here because my mom has a Seminar."

"Well, I’m truly sorry, but you do need an adult to come in."

Just when all hope is lost, Chris Pine walks up to the counter, looking down at Lisa who has her head down, tells the ticket lady. "It's ok, she's with me."

Looking up for the first time, Lisa’s frown turns up to a grin and her jaw drops.

"Your um, um, your Captain Kirk?"

"Well, Chris Pine but yes on screen I do play Captain Kirk and I have been in other movies. So, what brings you here today?'

Lisa speaks in an excited tone "Are you kidding me, this is a replica of the USS Enterprise Bridge and life size teleportation device."

On the Deck of the Enterprise Lisa takes a seat in the captain's chair feet dangling she shouts out order, "Full Speed ahead Mr. Zulu", "Scotty we need more power". With a small grin Chris ask is she would like a picture taken. Lisa grabs her phone from her bag and tosses it at Chris. With a big smile, Chris snaps a few photos. "Ok, well Lisa I do have to go, I has been a real pleasure meeting you.

Lisa looks up to see Chris walk off the deck and head towards the teleportation dock. "Mr. Kirk, Mr. Kirk."

Chris Pines steps up onto the station, glances town to his watch and talks into it. "Mr. Scott, one to beam up please." Smiling at Lisa and winking before being beamed up.

Before Lisa’s eyes, Chris Pine disappears through the lights. Wide eyed, Lisa runs up to the docking station hyper, excited, Lisa lifts her head and "Scotty one to beam up please."

After a few seconds, "Scotty, Mr. Scotty?"

When Lisa finally looks around to realize he is still in the exhibit, "OHHH" looking up she sees her dad and sister standing by the entry doors, her dad tapping his foot in frustration. Slowly she steps down and walks towards the doors.

Lisa, her dad and sister walk out of the MGM Grand, "Are you kidding me, I've been looking everywhere for you, good thing your sister sometimes pays attention, you mom has been waiting for the last half hour by the shark tanks."

"But dad, you won't believe what has happened?"
