It's been a while. Let's start with some of my personal top movies from this year so far, along with a few honorable mentions. I know I can't pick just five. The last few years have been amazing for movie lovers and it's only expected to get better. I'm going to list my top 5 counting down to 1.

#5 Bring Her Back
This Austrailian horror directed by Danny and Michael Philippou which released in May of this year beat out a few more favorites for my top 5 ranking. Most horror movies don't surprise me with twists and turns but I let myself go with this one. The premise is two step-siblings become orphaned and are placed in the middle of an occult ritual by their new foster mother. At few points do you really know what's going to happen or even what's going on, but when you figure it out you're left horrified. You can find this film for rent at this time on Amazon Prime for $4.99.

#4 Superman
Coming in at my number four is one of the most talked about and even seen as controversial, Superman. I finally got to watch this one about a week ago and I was not left disappointed at all. While I'm not a huge superhero buff, I do enjoy most of the films. This was packed with 2 hours of a good time. Many have deemed this one controversial because of the parallels between Palestine and Israel. My opinion, even if that were the intention of the conflict inside the film, Free Palestine. You can find this movie still in most large theaters and on Fandango At Home for $20.

#3 Novocaine
Bringing fun into the mix, and I love a fun film, we have Novocaine starring Jack Quaid. This movie follows a man who feels no pain trying to save a girl snatched at a bank robbery. In my opinion of course, this is a very fun action movie. I enjoy seeing Jack in more films as of late. I was glued to the screen and was met with a few hearty laughs as well. You can find this one streaming on Paramount+ along with MGM+.

#2 Sinners
For my number two spot I was fighting internally where to put this one. Sinners is by far one of the most fabulous movies to grace us this year, from the music to the cinematography. Set in 1932, twins and World War I veterans Smoke and Stack Moore return to Mississippi after seven years. Using stolen money, they purchase a sawmill to start a juke joint for the local Black community. I have rewatched this one around 3 times. Pro Tip: Don't invite people into your homes. You can find this movie streaming on HBO Max.

#1 28 Years Later
As a huge fan of 28 Days Later, I can say that 28 Years Later did not leave me disappointed. I can also say that it left me excited for the following film 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple which will be released in January of 2026. Jodie Comer is one of the loves of my life and I will tell you if movies have been known to move you to tears then you better hang on to a tissue. I ranked this my number one because of a few factors. My anticipation for the release paired with my theater experience, then paired with the storytelling and pace of the film really sent seratonin surging from my brain. You don't need to necessarily watch the original for this one but I do recommend it. Which you can find 28 Days Later on Pluto TV for free. 28 Years Later can be found for rent on most services.
