Timothy Busfield, an actor on The West Wing, is facing an arrest warrant for alleged child sex abuse
In New Mexico, the seasoned actor and director is accused of molesting two child actors while working on a television series

According to court documents, veteran actor and director Timothy Busfield, who won an Emmy for his role on "The West Wing" and had a long career in both television and film, is now the subject of an arrest warrant issued in "Albuquerque, New Mexico" for child sexual abuse.
In connection with alleged incidents involving two child actors, the 68-year-old has been charged by the New Mexico Police Department with "two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse." The allegations are centered on Busfield's work as a director and producer on the Fox show "The Cleaning Lady," which aired from 2022 until it was pulled from the air in June 2025. The warrant and court affidavit state that when Busfield joined the production, the two siblings, who were both 11 years old at the time of reporting, met him.
According to the warrant, one of the boys claimed that the inappropriate behavior started when he was seven years old, with numerous alleged incidents occurring on set. In support of the charges, an investigator from the Albuquerque Police Department stated in a criminal complaint that the mother of the children first became concerned toward the end of 2024 and contacted Child Protective Services.
The initial report was made after one of the kids told a counselor about inappropriate touching, which prompted the authorities to officially start their investigation. The abuse is said to have occurred between spring 2024 and November 2022, according to the complaint. The affidavit's specifics raise serious concerns regarding the alleged behavior that straddled personal and professional boundaries. According to the warrant, Busfield and his wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, who is best known for her role on "Little House on the Prairie," reportedly engaged with the family outside of work by giving gifts and attending social functions. The police document suggests that these actions may have been used to build trust. Busfield is married to Gilbert, who is best known for her role on the show.
The affidavit describes behavior that the arrest warrant describes as grooming. According to the officer’s narrative, the children were encouraged to call Busfield “‘Uncle Tim,’” and alleged interactions included inappropriate touching that was framed as play or affection. According to Officer Marvin Kirk Brown's affidavit, this kind of behavior, in which closeness is built while abusive behavior is hidden, can "erode boundaries" and delay misconduct detection.
According to reports, one parent directly inquired of her children if "anyone had ever touched them in a manner that made them feel uncomfortable." Per the warrant, the children responded by mentioning Busfield in the context of their interactions on set, leading to the formal complaint that triggered the Albuquerque Police Department’s involvement.
In the latter half of 2024, a "doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital" notified the police about the alleged behavior. That report sparked a more in-depth investigation by law enforcement, which led to the January arrest warrant. 9, 2026.
Multiple reports claim that when asked for comment, Busfield's legal representatives did not immediately respond. He is said to have denied that inappropriate behavior had occurred and described any physical contact with the children as harmless or playful during previously public conversations with investigators.
However, the prosecution contends that the charges now outlined in the warrant are justified by the numerous alleged incidents and grooming practices. Fans of Busfield's work and Hollywood have been affected by the case. In addition to his role as reporter Danny Concannon on "The West Wing," Busfield has directed and produced numerous films and television shows, including "Field of Dreams" and "Thirtysomething."
He has been a well-known figure in the industry for decades and has also received an "Emmy Award" for his acting. Since 2013, Busfield has been married to Melissa Gilbert. At the end of 2025, Gilbert made headlines with her own commentary on social media about child sexual abuse. She talked about her own experiences and talked about how to protect young performers in public. Despite the fact that neither Gilbert nor Busfield have made any explicit statements regarding the allegations or the investigation, that context has increased the case's complexity for the public. Busfield has been the subject of a number of allegations since the 1990s, though at least one of those allegations did not lead to criminal charges. The current arrest warrant, however, represents a formal legal action by law enforcement on serious charges involving minors.
Experts in the field of law point out that a warrant for an arrest does not, in and of itself, establish guilt; rather, it indicates that the authorities believe there is probable cause to pursue prosecution. Busfield may be subjected to a trial and the associated legal process in New Mexico if he is taken into custody and formally charged. The evidence presented in court and his legal team's defenses would determine the outcome of such a case.
The public has had a strong reaction. Users have expressed shock, sadness, and concern for the alleged victims on social media forums, as well as paying close attention to how the case will play out. Observers draw attention to the significance of due process and the devastating effects that allegations of abuse against people in positions of authority and trust can have, particularly on professional sets involving children.
For now, law enforcement continues to seek Busfield, and the investigation remains active. Courts and legal filings are anticipated to provide a clearer picture of the evidence and defense response as this story progresses. The allegations have already altered public perception of a person who has long been regarded as a well-known face on American television.
