This Week's Anime Recap: Series I Completed

Week 3, 4, 5 of 52 - Jan 16–Feb 5 2025

By animetipzPublished 11 months ago 5 min read

Well, I fell behind in this weekly series so let's catch up! This is week 3, 4, and 5 of this new series that I am going to do all year because I am insane. It would be fun to review the anime I finish each week. Believe it or not, I finish more anime than I have time to write about so these will be brief recaps. I will be sure to link the full reviews when I write them as well.

If you haven't been following along, check out day 18 of my 30-day anime challenge!

I hope you enjoy these couple weeks! I'd love to hear what you watched this week too.

Week 3

Natsume's book of friends season 1

Storyline: Natsume is lonely; he has an ability that separates him from others: he can see and interact with spirits. Soon, however, Natsume discovers that he's not alone: his grandmother Reiko also had the gift. But things get hectic and possibly dangerous for Natsume when he finds out that he also inherited the 'Book of Friends', a book that contains the names of all the spirits Reiko defeated and subjugated. He finds himself hounded by his grandmother's underlings and, with the help of a 'cat' charm spirit, decides to free them from the Book's shackles, as well as protect the book from those who seek to misuse its power…

Info: 87 Episodes

Genre: Shojo, Drama, Comedy, Slice-of-Life

My Review: This anime felt as if jujutsu kaisen or Dandadan were a Studio Ghibli creation. The storyline felt as if it should have been a horror anime, but it was wrapped up in an adorable and peaceful animation style. It was slow at times, but I enjoyed having it on in the background, and I am looking forward to watching more seasons.

Week 4

Attack on Titan

Storyline: Over a century ago, mankind was devoured by giant beings of unknown intelligence and origin known as Titans - creatures that eat humans alive indiscriminately and for no apparent reason. The remaining population has managed to survive the last hundred years only by building a multi-walled city capable of keeping the Titans at bay, training military recruits to patrol the perimeter, and gathering intelligence about their mysterious foe. Eren and Mikasa have lived a relatively peaceful life behind the city's walls, but when a massive Titan appears, smashing the outer barrier and unleashing a wave of terror, their lives are brutally changed forever…

Info: 98 Episodes

Genre: Shonen, Drama, Action

My Review: Yes I finally finished Attack on Titan. I will be writing a full review soon but here are my thoughts.

Season 1 was insane, it had more plot twists than I could keep up with. I felt as if I thought I knew which way the story was going and then bam it completely changed.

Season 2 made me hate the Titans. It was the shortest season and the most action-packed. I think this was my favorite season of the anime.

Season 3 made me realize that the Titans weren't the bad guys and now I hated humans. I thought this was the most twisted season.

Season 4 confused me. In the first part, I was completely lost. I mean, I thought I accidentally clicked on the wrong anime lost. I had the hardest time getting through the first part of this season because it couldn't keep my attention. The season half of the season, I couldn't stop watching, however. Seeing everything unfold was wild, and when it ended I had to lay in bed for a while, staring at the wall and processing what I just watched. It doesn't matter if there are titans, people will always cause wars, deaths, and destruction. Then the end credits hinted it was starting over again.

I think this anime accurately lived up to the hype it gets. There is a lot more to unpack, but hopefully, I summarized it all right.

Week 5

Attack on Titan Junior High

Storyline: The hit show Attack on Titan is reimagined in this feel-good junior high microseries! See all your favorite characters getting into middle school shenanigans complete with secret love interests, class presidents, and chaotic cultural festivals. Eren and his friends are the hapless first-year students at Attack Junior High, a unique school for both humans and Titans alike. That's right… Titans go to class, too their gigantic classrooms with their larger-than-life school supplies and benches as big as buildings! And while most humans are happy to avoid the massive monstrosities, Eren will stop at nothing to exact revenge on the hungry Titan who ate something more precious than human life mom's homemade chee-burg bento! Join the secret Scout Regiment as they plan to stop the Titans while Eren masters the omnidirectional mobility gear to clean the massive wall surrounding the campus.

Info: 12 Episodes

Genre: Shonen, Comedy, School

My Review: Can we normalize making cute shows from intense anime? This anime was needed after finishing Attack on Titan. I would love one for Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer. I didn't know what to expect when I started watching, but it was cute and funny and made me happy to see all the characters alive and well.

Shows I watched but haven't finished

Insomniacs After School

Dungeon People

Sakamoto Days

Magic Maker: How to make magic in another world

Zenshu

Solo Leveling Season 2

The Case Study of Vanitas

Frieren: Beyond Journeys end

Steins; Gate

Trillion Game

Honey Lemon Soda

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2

Anyways, I'm falling in love with you

I may be a guild receptionist, but I'll solo any boss to clock out on time

One Piece Dressrosa Saga

I think this is the most anime I have ever started to watch every week. I already know this is going to be a great year for anime and I'm excited to write more.

I hope you don't think this is bragging in any way, I almost think it is embarrassing how much I can watch in a single week. Anime is meant to be enjoyed. If you watch one show in a year or 100 in a week doesn't change the fact that it's there for our enjoyment. I work remotely, and I stay home a lot, so I have anime on at 1.5x speed for most of my day which is how I can watch so much. Keep in mind a 12-episode show is only 2 hours for my broken brain. I also have mental issues that I don't want to deal with right now, so instead of sitting in my thoughts, I have anime playing which helps my mentality stay positive, which has worked better than anything else I have tried.

This is also why I love blogging. Whether you have read 1 of my blogs or all of them I appreciate it and hope I have been entertaining you. I wonder if I can keep up with this daily posting schedule. What would you like to read about if I were to keep posting daily? Anime reviews? Lists of anime recommendations? Another anime challenge? Blogs like these? I'd love some ideas! Let me know in the comments below.

What anime have you watched this week? Any good recommendations for me?
