The Young and the Restless Update: Will this be the end of Skyle or do they have a future?

Those who watch The Young and the Restless are frustrated at the move the show just made with a significant character. Viewers don't like to be blindsided, but the execs do what they want. Fans depend on spoilers to keep them up to date with what is going to happen in Genoa City, but sometimes, important news is kept closely guarded.

The burning question on the minds of Y&R viewers is whether there is a future for Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman (Alison Lanier). Lanier's sudden departure threw fans off, and her character headed to Milan. In case you missed it, the announcement came thsi past Wednesday that Summer was leaving for Milan on Friday. Poof, she was gone with little fanfare.

Skyle fans have been let down

Skyle fans were hoping the couple might reunite and were looking forward to Summer trying to win Kyle back as she did with Lola Abbott (Sasha Cale). Instead, she is traveling to Europe to save Marchetti after Chelsea Newman (Melissa Claire Egan) and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) depart.

There were no advance warnings, and the storyline did not indicate anything was amiss until this week. Both of Summer's assistants left her to work with the men they loved, and she was happy for them.

Kyle seems smitten with Claire Grace Newman (Hayley Erin), and they are both wise to Victor Newman's (Eric Braeden) plan to have Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) break them up. Some fans of Kyle and Claire believe that with Summer out of the picture, they should have smooth sailing and raise Harrison together. Others who watch the CBS soap don't think this couple has staying power.

Will Summer return to Genoa City?

When Kyle advised his ex-wife that he and Claire were moving in together, she asked him to wait until she returned to Genoa City. Summer is supposed to be gone temporarily, but she could hit some snags with Marchetti and have to remain in Milan for a while. She might also decide to remain permanently, with Harrison visiting when he can.

Some Skyle fans hope Summer will return one day with Lanier or a recast in the role. There have also been rumblings about Hunter King reprising the beloved character.

When asked a few years ago about returning to The Young and the Restless, King said she was happy with Hallmark but would not rule it out. Her last Hallmark film was in 2024, and there is no news that she is working on another project.

Do Kyle and Claire have staying power?

When King and Mealor left the soap together in 2023, Y&R made a big deal of the exit, but Lanier's departure remained quiet until two days before her final episode. Is the show pushing Kyle with Claire, and do they have what it takes to stay together?

If Summer is not replaced, there will have to be some closure. She may decide to stay in Europe and run Marcheti from there. Harrison is not being seen on the show regularly. They could always say he is spending time with his mom.

Skyle fans were disappointed when the soap broke up the couple after the long road that brought them together. It took a while for King's fans to be won over by Lanier, and now she is gone. Perhaps at some future date, Kyle and Summer might reunite with either King, Lanier, or be recast in the role. For now, viewers can only watch and wait.
