The two KKs

I would like to briefly describe my two favourite actresses in Hindi movies in India. Their names are Kimi Katkar and Katrina Kaif, hence the two KKs. I have been a fan of these actresses for years.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s Kimi Katkar was a popular actress in Hindi movies. She was beautiful and was a decent actor. In 1986 I returned to India and have lived there for a decade. At that time I was getting oriented to Hindi movies. Kimi was one of the first actors I saw in Hindi movies. She acted in movies such as Tarzan, Dariya Dil, Hum, Vardi, Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni, etc. Her voice was unique and she used to excel in song and dance sequences. At a time where there were many other successful actresses such as Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, Kimi was able to carve her own niche and had a big fan base. Often she was written about in the press. When she left the movie industry in the mid-1990s many people were sad. She got married and eventually settled in Australia with her husband.

She played some dramatic roles and was good in them and did some comedic roles as well. While she did a little bit of comedy I do not think that she achieved her full potential in it. She should have done more comedic roles. I think many directors did not tap or enhance her acting talent. She acted in a few ensemble movies such as Hum and Zalzala but was able to make her presence felt. If she was in a movie the audience would notice her.

Katrina Kaif is one of the most popular actresses in Hindi movies these days. She has been working in movies in India since 2003. She is very beautiful and is a decent actor as well. She has acted in movies such as Sarkar, Singh is King, Tiger Zinda Hai, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Jagga Jasoos and many more movies. She is a very good dancer and her song and dance sequences are very popular. She has been choosy about her projects in the last few years and enjoys a very loyal fan following. One of her song videos from a movie (Tiger Zinda Hai) is currently the most viewed song on youtube and one of the most popular youtube videos of all time.

Katrina has portrayed dramatic roles as well as comedic roles. Initially she had difficulty with Hindi as before 2003 she was living outside India and did not have much exposure to Hindi. Once working in India she took Hindi coaching lessons and eventually improved her knowledge of the language. I think she still can further improve but has done well in the last few years. Initially her dialogues were dubbed by voice over artists but later her own voice has been used in her latter movies. She has acted in many ensemble movies but has always made her presence felt. If she is in a movie she is definitely noticed by the audience. Her song and dance videos from movies such as Sheila ki Jawani and Chikni Chameli were very popular a few years ago. Besides movies Katrina has also made appearances on TV shows and has also worked on advertisement campaigns. Her work in the Nakshatra Jewels advertisements is very good; those advertisements are very well made and elaborate.

It would have been nice if both actresses, Kimi and Katrina, worked around the same time and in the same movie. I would have liked to see such a movie for sure.
