(Book review written directly after reading the first book as to not influence my opinion from the whole series)

I would advise that you read the blurb for this book before you start reading, or even a book review like this one, as I went in pretty much blind and it completely took me by surprise. Granted I am not one for gore so I had to skim the more violent parts of this book, although it is necessary to the story line so I wouldn’t recommend skipping it entirely.

Logan is an FBI agent catching serial killers, although when he meets a young girl, Lana, at a coffee shop their relationship escalates quickly. How was he to know she is a serial killer, and one of the murderers that he is currently looking for. Lana is tortured by her past, and is seeking revenge, eliminating those who have wronged her one by one. She risks it all when she starts seeing Logan, her one chance at being a normal girl, but Lana isn’t perfect, but will Logan see her as the monster she really is.

I love the way that these characters are drawn to one another, and I personally love the Romeo and Juliet, different worlds falling in love trope. The characters fall hard for one another and the emotions that you feel alongside the characters are intense. The highs and lows of this book make it so enjoyable and an easy read, and although I read it on my kindle, it was a real page turner!

I would have given this book 4 stars but I felt a little thrown off from the dual p.o.v. A murderer and an FBI agent dating is an interesting premise for a story, and the tension and drama is definitely there. However I did enjoy Logan’s p.o.v much more than I did Lana’s as I prefer to figure everything else with the main character rather than having all the information told to me from the other perspective. It dilutes the tension a little when we are informed on the opposing views. I did enjoy Lana’s POV but it wasn’t as tense as Logan’s as I was waiting for him to figure it out with every word that I read. I feel that maybe this had been done to make it appeal to the correct audience as not many young adult or mature adult books have a male protagonist, as you could argue that Lana is more of a protagonist that Logan. It is still a 4 star read if you aren’t as bothered by dual p.o.v as I am.

This book is the first in the Mindf*ck series (which consists of 5 books). This first book sets the scene and gives you the back ground details behind each of the characters. It does have a beginning middle and an end however as can be expected from a series it doesn’t have a completely satisfying ending. The good news is that all five books are available on kindle unlimited so you can get reading the next one straight away, as long as you have internet to download it.

I do have high hopes for this series being good, and I will be finishing the whole series off as I am now hooked! I enjoyed the character development that was revealed through the opening chapters and you really learn more about the characters through the dual POV. That being said it is defiantly a plot driven book with the tension and suspense carrying through as the stakes are raised in the relationship.
