I've had this story in the backburner for a while after playing Batman Arkham Knight. In the game, Nora is kidnapped by the militia in an attempt to get Mr. Freeze to kill Batman. Victor rightfully distrusts the militia and instead implores Batman to help him retrieve Nora. Of course Batman is able to do so. But with Nora now awake, she makes the decision to stop letting Victor try to save her and they ride away in the sunset to be with each other with what little time they have left. Batman respectfully leaves them alone knowing Victor will not come back to Gotham. I absolutely love this ending, however I'm not the biggest fan of ambiguity. So this inspired me to write my own ending for Victor and Nora heavily inspired by this ending.
Now let me start off by prefacing where and when my story takes place. It's not exactly a prologue of this ending, but in general it's inspired by the Arkham series. The Justice League is in their prime. Each of the core members have their corresponding sidekicks. Dick is already Nightwing and off on his own while Time is Robin full time. The league cannot be beaten and has not been beaten in many years. Now of course Batman is still Batman, so if anything happens in Gotham unless given explicit instructions. The league will not interfere.
So basically this prefacing means the league did exist in the Arkham series the whole time. So on to Nora and Victor. My ending for them would be very similar, to the one we see in Arkham Knight. But I want to expand on the idea of Nora and Victor finally getting to just spend some time with each other. Bruce is NOT dead, and is still active. But the Bat family is more prevalent and Azrael has returned to help be Gotham's protector while Bruce evaluates what the next best move is to protect Gotham.
Nora is actually completely cured and is no longer dying. Only problem is Victor is too far gone, he is incurable from the damage he's done to his own body. He gave his life for Nora's and time is winding down for Victor. He will be Mr. Freeze until the day he dies, which isn't too far away. Victor and Nora are in Northern Canada hiding and trying to live their lives in peace. But because Gotham's biggest players looking for their next score: Falcone, Two-Face, Penguin, all refuse to leave him alone. They want Mr. Freeze back. What they don't know however, is Victor's condition is slowly getting worse and worse. So if they truly attack Victor and Nora he can defend them if absolutely necessary, but he will more than likely die in the process. So knowing Bruce's secret identity and knowing Victor is too proud to ask for help, Nora finds a way to show up to Wayne Manor under the radar and asks for help. They can't ask the authorities for help given Victor's past and she doesn't want Victor to be killed trying to protect her. Bruce talks to the league, and decides it's time for the league to actually start helping instead of punching. Barry agrees and mentions how he and Wally have done great work rehabilitating their enemies to the point Central City is basically devoid of crime. Superman of course agrees as he himself is constantly doing this in Metropolis. So the league comes to a vote and unanimously agrees. For those truly seeking a better life, the Justice League comprises it own version of the witness protection program. Victor and Nora are even given panic buttons to call the league for help at any time in case any unwanted visitors find a way to pay the Fries family a visit. So Bruce, Arthur, Barry, Clark, and Cyborg come up with a great idea. With the help of Bruce's resources, the league essentially makes a Fortress of Solitude. They set up in the South pole to keep Victor and Nora as far away from Gotham as possible and give Victor somewhere he can live comfortably even outside of his suit. Clark, Barry, Arthur and Cyborg all help in delivering the resources necessary to their fortress.
The best part of this is not only do Bruce/Alfred check up on Nora/Victor using Wayne satellites. Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg have actually become great friends with Nora and Victor. The cold doesn't affect anyone of them. And of course Barry can make it to them in no time so they frequently pop by when they have time. Sometimes together sometimes separately, but they all find time to a good meal and if they need any supplies from civilization they don't mind getting them in their respective ways. The success of Nora and Victor more and more former villains are given a chance to be redeemed and live in peace.
I mulled over the idea of Nora and Victor having kids, maybe even meta human kids. I wanted to show that they can break the curse of becoming the next generation of villains and just be kids. But I've since then changed my mind. And that's where we leave them, sure Victor is running out of time. But as long as he can still wake up to Nora, and he knows she'll be there when he closes his eyes for the last time. Victor could not be happier. Victor does eventually and inevitably die. The exact time table I still haven't fleshed out yet. But he can rest easy knowing he died a good man and atoned for his sins as best he could.
