The Walking Dead
I know just looking at the title some people may already be shaking their heads saying I have no idea what I'm talking about, but just hear me out. I remember when I first came across the show back in 2010 when it first premiered. The showing I saw was featured in black and white and it was about five to ten minutes into the very first episode. Something about it immediately grabbed me. Now, this was around the time where I was still slightly terrified of all things horror but started coming around on the genre.

Lloyd Alexander's Grim Legendary Fantasy
It was very in vogue among my childhood friends to become enraptured with the mythical world of Narnia, with all its golden good and brooding evil. My friends among the Swordplay UTSA alumnus Facebook group feel that my own bad experience with Narnia came from starting the Chronicles of Narnia in the wrong place. We read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe first in fourth grade instead of a more logical starting place, perhaps The Horse And His Boy. I followed along with my class until the girl (I don't even know the kids' names) went through the wardrobe and met the sniveling fawn, Mr. Tumnus, and then I closed the book, dropped it on my desk, folded my arms, and accepted my Unsatisfactory marks in reading for the period.

System Wars
What's left of humanity live amongst space bases across planetary bodies. The People of Mars left the desert world the same it has always been. Humans should've learned their lesson with Earth, once greenhouse gas took over, they couldn't stop the planet's downfall. Centuries of science and architecture leave occupants of Mars to burrow, live amongst tunnel dwellings, alongside remnants of old planetary corporations. Many knowing that life there isn't the answer for humanity's further existence.

Survival
The city was dark and deserted. Buildings lay in ruin, cars tossed around like a child’s play set. The moon shone on half formed buildings, their silhouettes stretching across the barren landscape like clawing fingers. Bodies, some whole and others partially decayed, littered the streets, the blood and stench rising and hovering over the city in a cloud.

Greg
"Ahhhh!!!!, Ruuun, Kill It!!!". If you repeat this over a billion times, then you will know what it is like to be me. Who am I? I am glad you asked. Not many people do…all I hear is either "Ahhh!, Ruun!", or "kill it". Sometimes separately but most of the time it is all three at once…..Sigh, oh yes, me.. My name is Greg, but the funny thing is nobody takes the time to get to know me at all. Ever since "The event" happened. One day I am at home, I just got back from going to a midnight release of my all time favourite game. I have my food ready…healthy snack of the everyday gamer. Pizza pockets and Cola….I swear, one day doctors will finally admit that the combination of the two are what will cure cancer. In the meantime, I guess I will have to deal with people telling me "Eat healthier. Why aren't you going out for a walk?

Fox among wolves
I held out my fingers and began counting. “Things I know are true; 1. My name is Max Elliots, but the people around me, only know me as Dakota 2. My family were all killed because of me, 3. I don’t trust a single person in this pack, 4. I have killed people, 5. Zombies are real.”

Mimic
I "Last time I was around this many people, it was an orgy!" Gramorn Songsteel yelled as he buried his sword into one of the Trieflin Assassins. The assassin stumbled back, eyes wide as the blue life-blood oozed from the wound. She fell to the ground, mouth forming a perfect 'O'. "Please tell me there are no more of these assholes."

Everything we needed.
His feet slapped against the wet cement floor beneath him. The sprinklers must have gone off at some point. He barely had time to think as he tried to remember the way back. God, why does everything look so different in this light? Outside, he could hear the rapid release of bullets into the mass of.. whatever they were now. Even worse, he knew those things were somewhere in the building. Nonetheless, he pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind as he ran, making sure to hold tightly to the sage colored, military ammo canister like their lives depended on it. Because their lives did depend on it. That sage ammo canister, and his ability to remember which corridors led back to the bunker.
