5 Greatest "Unrealistic" Sports Games
The first video game I had for the SEGA Dreamcast was NBA 2K, the most realistic basketball video game at the time. Every sports game since then brags about how realistic it is, and as the years go on the game gets more and more lifelike. But there's something fun about breaking away from that, sometimes realistic is stale. I was always a big fan of video games that were deemed "unrealistic" and frankly, I prefer those games to Madden and NBA 2K. Some of my friends that are die hard sports fans said these games were a disgrace to the sport. Those friends were wrong. Just because you like playing a realistic (read boring) baseball game and I like playing baseball with fire and punching, doesn't make one game necessarily better than the other. For those of you who are fans of these so called disgraces, here's the 5 best unrealistic sports video games.

Highs and Lows of Super Mario Run
With over 50 million downloads in the first week, and almost doubling Pokémon Go in-app purchases on its first day, Nintendo can say they've won, once again. This time, with Super Mario Run. Pokémon Go did its job by reuniting the Nintendo community, but they needed a strong follow up. On September 7, 2016, Nintendo announced the arrival of Super Mario Run, a Mario revamp, and the next mobile game to take over the world for a week or so. I, like every millennial growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s, could not wait for a full blown Super Mario mobile game, you know, to kill time playing in the bathroom and what not. I waited the 3 and a half months until it’s December 15th release.

Funko Figures From TV Series
I am not a hoarder though I would like to be, one day. Not like forever just for a few months until my family calls the TV show and does an intervention. When they dig me out from beneath a mound of stuff, I envision a mountain of Funko Pop! figures. I can't get enough of them. It's like crack for action figure collectors, and for the rest of you it's like a whip-its. For those of you who don't know what whip-its are they make you feel good for a minute. You say a few dumb things in a dumb voice and then you want to do it again. Same exact thing with buying Funko figures. I don't think anyone owns just one Funko. Literally, I have never met anyone who owns just two. Once you start on Funko, you don't stop. I go through phases of collecting. My most recent additions were specific to TV series. They sit on shelves, still in original boxes where they will stay till the collection gets passed down to my grandchildren, (in my mind that actually happens). But I will really enjoy looking at them until then, "then" being death. Though I have taken Raymond Reddington, of Blacklist fame, out of the box a few times for advice.

Best 'Stranger Things' Funko Pop! Figures Arrive
In 2016, Netflix transported us back to the 80s, with the classic tube socks, feathered hair, but with better television quality. Stranger Things rocked the streaming service and became one of the top watched shows of the summer. We followed a group of boys as they searched for their missing friend, gained the friendship of a young girl turned government experiment, and experienced the demogorgons in all their dangerous glory. Most of the audience may not have much in common with the school aged kids, or the 80s, but the show was a hit. And like any pop culture phenemonon, enter Funko Pop! to immortalize the characters for fans! Each of the boys, kickass Elle, Joyce, and her lights and even Barb are portrayed in 3 3/4" figures that you can keep on your desk, dresser, or right next to you on the couch when Season 2 premieres in 2017!

Remembering 'Looking for Mr. Goodbar'
People are always asking for movies that stand the test of time. Movies that were made and feel like another era, but are so authentic that they could not be recreated today. These are the classic films like The Godfather, Ordinary People, or Apocolypse Now. I still have almost every VHS tape, laser disc, DVD, and Blu Ray I ever bought. It's a good thing too, because films like Looking for Mr. Goodbar are not easy to find. Sure you can watch it on YouTube until the Russian site that loaded it up to a channel gets shut down for copyright issues but that doesn't feel right. Back in 1977 when it was still a novel idea to successfully adapt a film from a book, and the only sequel was Rocky II, the classic Looking for Mr. Goodbar launched the career of the Dalai Lama's favorite male lead, Richard Gere. Unfortunately the movie does not compare to the book, and after re-watching the film recently I have taken it off my list of movies that stand the test of time. But I highly recommend reading the book.

What Games Do Game Designers Play?
The video game market is oversaturated with content. With countless games lining the virtual shelfs, it can be hard to find the most interesting and inventive. But that doesn't mean they’re not out there! There are games, both indie and AAA, that are thinking about how to redefine genre expectations. While there are certainly more niche games that are focusing on creating completely new experiences, this list is primarily focusing on the games that are maximizing their genre’s potential. Those other games will have to wait until a future post. Instead, take a look at the games that are perfecting their genres, combining old and modern convention, and offering new perspectives.

The Best Ways to Introduce Kids to Superheroes
One of my absolute favorite things about being a parent is sharing the things I love the most with my kids. A perfect example was getting to hear my kids gasp in shock when Darth Vader reveals that big family secret to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back. Nothing like the magic of re-experiencing the best science fiction, fantasy, and comics with someone who’s seeing or reading it for the first time. Case in point: superheroes. I love hearing my six-year-old geek out about what Spider-Man would do in a given situation, so I’m definitely planning on fanning the flame of fandom with some comic books to keep the superhero love going. Rekindle your fascination with the great men and women of the superhero universes with these toys, costumes, books, and more this Christmas or any time of the year.
