Rising from the Ashes: My Favorite Former CA Producers
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I shine a spotlight on the maligned, forgotten, and overshadowed. Like a lot of people, I'd been actively paying attention to the collapse of Channel Awesome. I wasn't happy to see the source of much of my entertainment for the past ten years go down in flames. However, any business that would do even a third of the things reported in the "Not So Awesome" Google document really should not be around.

The Importance of Film Within Korean Society (Part 3)
Probably one of the most interesting films to come from Korea is from the North. It is well known that Kim Jong-Il is a huge movie fanatic. Kim Jong-Il is the son of Kim Il-Sung previous leader of the North, whom he succeeded in 1994 when he died. He assumed the titles of "Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea," "Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army," and "General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea." Unfortunately, North Korea isn’t really known for its films, so in 1978, Kim Jong-Il arranged the kidnapping of South Korean director Shin San-Ok and his ex-wife, Choi Eun-Hie, who was a leading actress at the time. The two were forced to live under house arrest and produce several movies for Kim Jong-Il, the last movie and most interesting to look at in detail was Pulgasari (Shin 1985). Pulgasari has been likened to Godzilla (1984) in the monster movie genre, and did in fact have the same special effects team, but unlike other monster movies, this one was a strict metaphor and carried anti-capitalism and pro-communist messages to the audience.

Luna vs. Hermione
Luna and Hermione are the two of the main heroines of the Harry Potter series. Luna is a true Ravenclaw and, as we all know, Hermione was a Hat Stall and was considered for the same House, but got sorted into Gryffindor in the end. Even though Hermione is an intelligent and hardworking student, she would never have been a true Ravenclaw. The two are crucial when it comes to the group responsible to Voldemort's downfall. This is because, even though they are intelligent, they both have a very different way of thinking and approaching situations.

The Fall of Channel Awesome
Breaking down the Google document which highlighted in detail the issues that producers had with Channel Awesome, it can basically be broken down into two categories. You have the majority of the female producers who experienced some form of discrimination from the management of said company, either through their video contributions being mishandled, or in some cases sexual harassment and apparent attempts to actively demean them on camera for the sake of a production (refer to Lindsey Ellis’ “To Boldly Flee” complaint). The male producers, being category 2, suffered a different form of blatant disrespect; a failure in communication. You can read that here.

Ron Weasley vs Ron Weasley
A good friend of mine recently sent me her essay to read, and I found it phenomenal. An in-depth look at how easily a character's growth and personality can be erased in the process of adapting a book to film, the essay truly highlighted the issue using an infamous series popular to our generation. After obtaining permission from my friend, I bring you this wonderful piece.

Who Cares About Nicholas Sparks?
Does anyone care about Nicholas Sparks? Yes. Apparently a lot of people do. Sparks is a 21-time published author. His stories have been adapted on screen in major motion pictures that have grossed well over $100 million in the box office, and his name is about as household as Stephen King's.

10 Movie Posters with Overly Photoshopped Actresses
The photoshops these days are getting more and more ridiculous. At first, it all started from photoshopping models in ads to make them appear slimmer with the perfect facial structure. They wanted to create the perfect figures and so many women would yearn to have an appearance like those. And the sad part is that the majority of the models never looked like themselves in any of the ads and photoshoots. Because they would be photoshopped to look perfect! To this day I still question why photoshop exists and why its used to "correct" a nose, waist, lips, and everything else.
