Babylon
So the end of 2022 was kind of insane and we didn’t get to see as many movies as we would have liked so January is going to be my catch up month. These will not count towards the year end review of films for 2023 but will be added to the year end review for 2022. So first up we have the second Margot Robbie film of 2022, Babylon. Babylon got a lot of bad reviews, with around 50% on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audience members, and as always I am here to say that everyone that wrote negative reviews about this film are stupid and wrong.

Devotion
AMC A-List has been such a blessing for someone who creates all of her content around film and tv, Devotion was a film that my husband really wanted to see and I honestly went into the movie knowing absolutely nothing about it. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that's my favorite way to go into films. I like going in having absolutely no expectations whatsoever. I was hooked after the first five minutes. I have a very specific thing for war movies that center around aviators, I went through a very long Pearl Harbor and Flyboys phase. Devotion is an excellent addition to my favorite flier movies.

The Environmentalist Message at the Heart of Disney's 'Strange World'
Disney's Strange World is about a fantastical land entirely different from our own, filled with fantastic locals and strange creatures. A central throughline in the film, like most Disney properties, is about familial expectations. The explorer Jaeger Clade wants his son Searcher to follow in his footsteps and find a way over the impassable mountain chain surrounding their country of Avalonia. This expectation causes a rift in Jaeger and Searcher's relationship that continues into the present.

K-Drama Review: The Forbidden Marriage, Episode 1
— SYNOPSIS: — There is a Marriage Ban in effect throughout the lands because the royal family is searching for a new crown princess. This has gone on for seven years, and people are kind of fed up with it. Can’t blame them.

Nellie LaRoy is the 'Pretty Woman' of 'Babylon'
When Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) first appears on screen in Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much she looked like Julia Roberts’ character (Vivian Ward) at the beginning of Pretty Woman. You know, before Richard Gere gives her $3,000 and a new wardrobe to transform her into a suitable escort for his week of business meetings in Los Angeles. Nellie’s big curly hair, skin-tight red halter dress, and black ankle boots are certainly more reminiscent of 1990 than 1926, the year Chazelle’s lavish film about the early days of Hollywood begins. Is this intentional? Are we meant to see in Nellie LaRoy’s journey as a Hollywood it-girl a deconstruction of Vivian Ward’s “Cinderella” transformation?

Warhammer 40k's Biggest News Yet!
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. "War, so simple a word, yet so complex and devastating for the horror it reeks upon those who simply were trying to live out their exsitence as best they could." --Luetin09, Octarius War Part 2

Velma Dinkley was modeled after Gay rights activist Sheila James Kuehl's character on The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis
Velma Dinkley is modeled after Zelda Gilroy There were cheers and jeers when it was announced last year that Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo franchise was a lesbian. It was reported that many fans said they always suspected but some like myself assumed she was a brainy nerdy tomboy because only heterosexual couples were acknowledged on television as well as in many corners of the real world. If you did not know gay people and never heard anyone talk about the LBGTQ community this would be the logical assumption. No one knows what Hanna-Barbera was thinking when they created the character but they did actually model Velma after a lesbian actress whether knowingly or unwittingly.
