What Draws People to Cosplaying?
“OMG, look at those freaks! LOL, they’re all dressed up, wow. They’re so f*cking weird.” Two kids —maybe in their late teens, early 20s—get off the train and take the long escalator up towards Peachtree Center Station. They obviously have no idea what happens in Atlanta during Labor Day weekend. Outside of baseball games, business conferences, and other “official” business, there’s a whole other world that they’ve deemed “weird” in less than two minutes of being in it. They’re not even a part of it—they’re outsiders walking into a world that couldn’t care less what their opinions of us are.

Can You Cosplay from 'Black Panther' If You're White?
Black Panther is out, and white cosplayers are asking, "How can I cosplay from Black Panther?" and I'm over here like..."We gave you two characters. Pick one - buff White dude or skinny White dude...I mean...let me be helpful."

Jacoby (Jack Frost)
Jacoby is the one friend that has been with me since September of 2017, when things, I thought, were turning great for me in college. As it turns out, I had been cutting myself, trying to commit suicide once again. When I met Jacoby, he was very handsome and kind. But when I video chatted with him in November, I was completely nervous to talk to him. I was just thinking to myself: This is Jacoby (Frostplay on YouTube), one of the best cosplayers in the world. We both video chatted and I thought we had hit it off. As great friends, of course. Soon he called me some cute little nicknames like doll, baby doll, and/or silly girl. It may have sounded like unintentional flirting, but in reality, he was just calling me small nicknames. Not only that, but my Instagram name is WinterBabyDoll0018. He was the only person I ever had who made me feel the way every girl wanted to be; cared about and loved by another person. It didn't have to be in a relationship in order for guys to talk to you or be around you in the way Jacoby was around me. He meant the whole world to me. That was when, in December, I wanted to tell him that I loved him. I fell in love with a nice, kind, generous, and fun guy. I thought to myself that I may never find that perfect guy ever again. I have had so many opportunities to tell him how I feel. He made me feel like I really was beautiful, gorgeous, or... just being human. He made me feel I was meant to exist. I had fallen in love with my best friend.

Advice for Beginner Cosplayers
When you first hear of cosplay what do you think? Playing dress up? What is cosplay? Or I have heard of it and want to try it, but do not know where to start? Well, first you need to start with what is cosplay? Cosplay is a noun, and it is the practice of dressing up as a character from movie, book, or video game especially one from the Japanese genre of manga and anime. Then you can move on to what you want to cosplay. You can cosplay anything or anyone. Some of my favorite characters to cosplay as are Mituna from the webcomic Homestuck, Hikaru from the anime Ouran High School Host Club, Grell from the anime Black Butler, Juuzou from the anime Tokyo Ghoul, and also some original characters.

The BBC adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s most famous fairy tale is always watched in my house at this time of year. When the snow started falling where I live, on the tenth of December, I was determined to give you guys a very special snow day shoot, dedicated to one of my favorite heroines, Gerda.

Costumes vs Cosplay
Being a cosplayer is something of a lifestyle. You plan your events, your budget, timelines for creation, as well as how to execute the character. When a cosplayer decides to be a character from a major TV show or movie, they have to think about how they will portray them in a way no one else at their event will. Seeing someone in the same costume as you is somewhat heartbreaking. How did they do it? Is it better? Worse? It’s a cloud of mixed emotion.
