Stick (2025) is a Hole-in-One Series
'Stick' delivers relatable themes about family, trust, and rediscovering yourself.

You gotta concentrate and make your mark.
After winding up for the swing, Stick landed on Apple+ TV in 2025. When ex-golfer Pryce Cahill seeks to coach a troubled teen, their luck takes a different swing. As they travel to various golf courses, lessons on relationships, trust, and golf techniques transpire.
Stick is one of the best golf shows that we have. I binged this series as fast as striking a golf ball across the green. Aside from golf, Stick delivers relatable themes about family, trust, and rediscovering yourself amid a golf championship.
I am always down for an Owen Wilson comedy. This is my favorite role of Wilson’s. Typically, he plays himself in most media, but he’s still a funny guy. In Stick, he presents more emotional vulnerability.
Pryce Cahill has unresolved grief, which he bottles up with golf. The way Wilson plays this character is a career point, showing that he is capable of more. It boggles my mind that Wilson got no Emmy nomination for his incredible work!
I have a lot to say about the rich and layered characters of Stick. Writers knew how to guide these characters, both with funny banter and by hiding personal stories. The characters build solid dynamics. And yet, none of the actors were nominated for an Emmy!
In his breakout role, Peter Dager is fantastic as Santi, a golf prodigy. Burdened by anger, abandonment, and pressure, Santi disguises vulnerabilities with the usual teen arrogance. Dager brings sincerity to this character.
I have seen Mariana Trevino and Marc Maron in other films. Trevino is well-known for her role as the spirited Marisol from A Man Called Otto. Despite all the hardships, Elena is a loving mother who looks out for her son. She also looks out for herself. If you cross Elena, you will regret it.
As for Maron, he has a strong acting style, especially with roles in To Leslie and Sword of Trust. Mitts is a gruff and by-the-book man. Pryce is lucky to have a friend like Mitts who keeps him grounded.
Lilli Kay’s performance as Zero, a non-binary caddy and close friend to Santi, is compelling. Kay portrays them with fierce warmth and raw vulnerability.
Judy Greer also has a small part as Pryce’s ex-wife, Amber-Linn. There was a time when I didn’t like Greer. I am so glad that I gave her a second chance. She is a good actress. Greer and Wilson did a great job with their characters’ relationship, working out how to be more open with their emotions.
Creator Jason Keller insisted on authenticity. Admitting that he is no professional golfer, Keller hired golf consultants and real instructors, paying attention to every detail of the sport. What intrigued Keller most about the series is the characters. He was trying to find how to compile a story about characters who hadn't achieved goals when he thought about the science of golf.
Aside from the golf angle, I love any movie with a road trip angle. Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to take a road trip in an RV. Thematically, Stick is about confronting grief. As each character drifts, argues, and reluctantly bonds, the series shows that healing happens slowly. Found family exists.
I have become more interested in golf lately, going to the driving range at least once a week. Playing golf is refreshing and takes your mind off stress. Similar to trying new things, always try to be better with yourself. We can only do so much.
Whether you’re a golf pro, prefer mini golf, or need a new series to binge, watch Stick on Apple+ TV.
