An explanation of Gi-hun's plan for the conclusion of Squid Game Season 2

In the Squid Game season 2 finale, Gi-hun has a straightforward, albeit somewhat foolish, plan. When the violence starts at night, he orders his allies to hide under their bunks. Gi-hun believes that as soon as the fighting gets out of control, the Masked Men will show there to put an end to it. They take the Masked men's weapons and knock them out, gathering them to launch an insurrection. Gi-hun leads a group of Squid Game season 2 characters outside their dorm and toward the control room, but not all of them consent to battle. They don't make it very far before the Masked Men attack, though, and most of Gi-hun's team members perish during the expedition.

The main reason Gi-hun's plan doesn't work is that the Front Man knows about it, and the people in charge of the Games are obviously ready for what's about to happen. For this reason, the Masked Men are summoned to a "special game." Knowing that the VIPs would find this amusing, the leaders placed them in the line of fire. Furthermore, the fact that they plan this deadly encounter indicates that the Masked Men don't value the players' lives any more than they do. Nevertheless, the Masked Men nevertheless follow orders.

Given that there are far more Masked Men than players ready to engage in combat, Gi-hun's team is likewise ill-prepared. Despite Hyun-ju's military background, they lack the ammunition and are vastly outnumbered to carry out their insurrection. Dae-ho doesn't bring the additional ammunition back to the other players after returning to the hostel. He isn't a real marine, at least not one who has ever witnessed war, as is made clear during the encounter in the finale. In the last episode of Squid Game season 2, it is revealed that Captain Park is employed by the company that organizes the competition and that he is deliberately misguiding Jun-ho and Woo-seok. At least this explains why he saved Jun-ho following the conclusion of Squid Game season 1. Given his involvement with the Games, it makes sense that Captain Park discovers him in the sea close to the island. Although we don't yet fully understand Captain Park's position, it's plausible that In-ho even sent the captain to look for his brother.

In order to hide his treason, Captain Park murders one of Jun-ho's men, and by the end of season 2, the others are unaware of what he is doing. Squid Game season 3 will reveal this information, which could further jeopardize Jun-ho and Woo-seok should they discover the truth.

At the end of season two, why does the front man let Gi-hun live?

The revelation that the Front Man entered the Games and posed as a coworker of Gi-hun and the other contestants is also reserved for Squid Game season 3. Instead of revealing himself to Gi-hun during their confrontation, In-ho kills Jung-bae while wearing his black mask. Given that he significantly spares Gi-hun's life, the protagonist of the drama will probably encounter him once more in the last season. The reason he spares Gi-hun is obvious, but it's unclear what he plans to do with him after he captures him.

Since Gi-hun's rebellion is the culmination of Squid Game season 2, the conclusion of the most recent tournament is kept a secret. The remaining rebels are killed by the Masked Men after Gi-hun and Jung-bae are taken prisoner. Voting on whether to continue the Games is probably open to anyone still in their quarters, even those who returned for more ammunition. It's reasonable to suppose that the tournament continues since Gi-hun's proposal eliminates a large number of the characters who opposed it.

This is further supported by the mid-credits scene of Squid Game season 2, though it's unclear if Gi-hun is still allowed to compete in the tournament. When season 3 premieres in 2025, many of the unresolved issues surrounding the real Games should be resolved.
