Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere - A Movie Review

There were several Springsteen fans seeing this movie

Songs are about trying to find something real in all the noise.

Welcomed from the stage and into theaters, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is a 2025 film. Based on the life of the musician Bruce Springsteen, the film follows his journey when he was crafting his 1982 album Nebraska. In the midst of his successes, Springsteen experiences depression and childhood memories that haunt him.

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is the latest biographical film about a famous musician. My opinions differ on these films since I don’t have enough music knowledge. Deliver Me from Nowhere is executed well, but presents the usual storyline we’d see. The film does enforce a positive message about taking care of your mental health.

Jeremy Allen White plays Bruce Springsteen. White is well-known for his role as Carmen Berzato in the hit series "The Bear." He is an outstanding actor and has accomplished profound scenes in his time on the series. However, while White fits the emotional core of the part, to me, he still felt like Carmen, only as a musician, instead of a Chef.

White is still believable as a musician, but more of a fictional character than the real-life musician he’s playing. According to sources, White musically trained for the role and did his own singing. He is a talented actor who makes excellent commitments.

Deliver Me from Nowhere includes notable acting credits. Credits include Jeremy Piven, Odessa Young, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, David Krumholtz, Gaby Hoffman, Marc Maron, and a fantastic debut performance by Matthew Anthony Pellicano Jr. as young Bruce Springsteen.

Jeremy Strong plays Jon Landau, Springsteen’s agent. Jon is always supportive of Bruce. This is a positive trait to see in talent agents.

Faye Romano (Odessa Young) is a combination of the romantic interests Springsteen has had. This may be the first time I have seen Gaby Hoffman (Adele Springsteen) in an adult role, after seeing her perform in movies as a kid.

I was so happy to see Paul Walter Hauser (Mike Batlan). He is becoming a rising star. He made my theater laugh with all his comical deliveries.

Scott Cooper’s approach to directing Deliver Me from Nowhere did a good job of depicting the musician’s life. He directed Crazy Heart, a similar music drama. According to Cooper, he didn’t have an easy time making this film. He was going through personal issues. The music of Springsteen helped him through the filming.

Cooper went for authenticity, like scouting the entire area in New Jersey that reflected Springsteen’s childhood home. With Springsteen’s approval, they found the house that is used in the film.

Springsteen was heavily involved throughout the making of the biopic. The film was approved by Springsteen before filming commenced. He was always there to give White advice and fact-check historical accuracy.

The best of Cooper’s work focused on Springsteen’s battle with depression, a relatable topic to most audiences. As Cooper said, he likes to focus on stories with men at their breaking points and trying to find solace. Mental health care is a primary focus in the film, which wasn’t given enough attention in the film’s 80s era.

I found the film repetitive and slow, and lacking focus. Musician movies follow the same musical chords as viewers watch them reach stardom, hit a dilemma, but continue to create music. There were several Springsteen fans seeing this movie, so others must have a different opinion from me.

Deliver Me From Nowhere is still worth checking out for its exciting concert style. Fans of Springsteen’s work have approved.
