Spider-Man 4's Action Scenes Are Going To Be Some Of The Best In The MCU

Mark My Words

I'm confident that Spider-Man 4 will have some of the best battle scenes in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe now that it has a new director. Spider-Man 4 will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, which is a significant departure for the Tom Holland-led franchise given Jon Watts handled the first three entries. Destin Daniel Cretton previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While Spider-Man 4 is well underway, not much is known about Peter Parker's potential future adventure.

Even though Cretton taking over for the upcoming Spider-Man film makes me question what's going on with Shang-Chi 2, it also excites me much about Peter Parker's future, picking up where Spider-Man: No Way Home left off. My favorite Spider-Man movie to date would be Spider-Man 4 if Cretton could recreate the amazing battle scenes from Shang-Chi. Hopefully, as soon as possible, we will find out who Spider-Man will be facing battle against.

The director's update for Spider-Man 4 has me convinced that the action scenes will be excellent.

In my opinion, Shang-Chi has the best battle scenes in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. It lived up to the characters' promise of martial arts, and the bus sequence felt like something out of a Jackie Chan movie, like Police Story. Making the most of the wuxia-inspired action throughout the movie helped distinguish it from other MCU productions. Shang-Chi was masterfully choreographed by Destin Daniel Cretton and his entire stunt team, and it would be fantastic to include some of that work into the impending fourth MCU Spider-Man movie.

There haven't seemed to be many noteworthy action sequences starring Tom Holland's Spider-Man, which is one of the reasons I am so thrilled that Cretton will be directing Spider-Man 4. With Shang-Chi under his belt, I have no doubt that the filmmaker can successfully step up Spider-Man's action game, and if the movie is actually a street-level production, it might be something absolutely amazing. There are countless options, and Cretton has proven he is up to the task by working on Shang-Chi.

Additionally, Tom Holland's Commitment To Spider-Man's Physicality Will Strengthen The MCU Film

Because of his exceptional athleticism, Tom Holland is able to pull off more stunts on his own than most other actors. When you combine that with his ability to flip around like Spider-Man, the character sometimes comes to life in ways that a CGI stand-in or stunt double just can't. Holland deserves to star in another movie that really showcases his athletic prowess, since he has demonstrated a commitment to the role throughout the years. Spider-Man 4 by Destin Daniel Cretton would be the ideal tool for him to achieve that.

Spider-Man has been in numerous large-scale, computer-generated imagery battle sequences in the MCU thus far, which is acceptable, but it would be good to see more realistic, real-world action scenes in a Spider-Man film. This next sequel might take a very similar turn to Spider-Man's last showdown with Green Goblin from Raimi's original Spider-Man movie, but with Shang-Chi's hand-to-hand fighting added to the mix.

Better action scenes are needed in the MCU, and I think Spider-Man 4 can deliver them.

To be honest, I believe that the MCU has occasionally had trouble with its battle scenes. Sure, they can be really entertaining, but occasionally they are almost completely nonsensical due to an excessive dependence on visual effects rather than genuine stunt work. The inherent practicality of many of their battle scenes is why movies like Shang-Chi and Captain America: The Winter Solider stand out in terms of fight choreography. Of course, those movies also feature a ton of visual effects, but it's important to emphasize how real it feels to see real people performing stunts.

The Tom Holland-led series has mostly prioritized grand spectacle over closer-quarters action sequences, but Spider-Man 4 has the potential to inject a little more gritty action to the battle scenes. His battles with Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home emphasize the value of close quarters fighting in Spider-Man battle scenes and heighten the suspense. If the choreography were a little more flamboyant, as in Shang-Chi, Spider-Man 4's action sequences could really sparkle.

After Jon Watts helmed the first three Spider-Man films, I'm really happy that Destin Daniel Cretton will be directing the fourth installment of the franchise. A welcome change of pace is provided by the addition of Shang-Chi's director, who allows for some of the best action sequences in the history of the MCU. The MCU can occasionally falter in that area, but with Cretton leading the charge, I'm optimistic that Spider-Man 4 will excel in many battle scenes, something Holland's Spider-Man movies haven't always done well.
