Scarlett Johansson Has 1 MCU Regret
To fix that, I need her to go back to the franchise.

In order to make up for the actress's one regret as the role, I hope Scarlett Johansson's recent return for a Marvel Cinematic Universe project will eventually lead to a Black Widow appearance. One of the celebrities who contributed to the MCU becoming the massive franchise that it is today is Johansson. The actress starred in some of the best MCU films as Natasha Romanoff. In 2019's Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow's emotional journey in the MCU came to a conclusion. It broke my heart, and Natasha's farewell scene was so moving.
I've always wished there had been more Black Widow in the MCU, particularly during the early years of the franchise. Johansson's Black Widow and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye did not receive the same level of attention as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk, who each had their own solo movies in the MCU's Phase 1. The characters would only get their chance to shine several years later, as Renner's Hawkeye series on Disney+ and Johansson's Black Widow feature were released in 2021. In order to address Johansson's MCU regret, I would want to see the two reunite in a future MCU production.
I concur with Scarlett Johansson's remarks about Hawkeye and Black Widow.
Scarlett Johansson recently confessed her misgivings as a Black Widow and Hawkeye. In an interview, she was asked which character from her career she would most like to revisit and understand how they came to be. The actress selected her MCU role even though Johansson's Black Widow film delved into important aspects of Natasha Romanoff's past, including her makeshift family and the Red Room. Johansson claims that the actress would have "loved to have seen the Hawkeye, Black Widow, some of that stuff." It wasn't enough that Renner's Hawkeye made an uncredited voice appearance in Black Widow.
Because of how much of Johansson's enigmatic backstory was revealed, I found the film Black Widow to be enjoyable. I must concur with the actress, though, as I thought Hawkeye's absence seemed odd. Marvel never looked into the origins of Natasha and Clint's bond, which is among the best in the MCU. While the dialogue gave us hints about their past, 2021's Black Widow could have included a segment of their renowned Budapest mission with the two beyond Hawkeye's vocal cameo, or it could have finally depicted how they met. I hope I can get that before it's too late.
I hope Scarlett Johansson's decision to become a Black widow is altered by her return to the MCU.
Scarlett Johansson has returned to the MCU five years after her most recent appearance in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. There's a catch, though. Johansson is no longer an actress in the MCU. Rather than playing Black Widow again, the actress is an executive producer on Thunderbolts*, a film from Marvel Studios. In my opinion, Johansson's participation in the 2025 Marvel film makes a lot of sense. That's because Thunderbolts* includes Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster—all of whom debuted in the MCU in the Black Widow film.
Johansson is currently just returning as an executive producer on Thunderbolts*, but there are already rumors that she will be working on another MCU project in the same role. Given that Johansson previously sued Disney for releasing Black Widow simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+'s Premier Access, her return to the MCU behind the camera is fascinating. Johansson may reconsider her decision to reprise her role as Black Widow now that she is back in the MCU and on good terms with the company.
Johansson was candid about her odds of making a comeback as Black Widow in 2023. The actress declared at the moment, "I'm done. The chapter is over. It's interesting to note that Johansson also discussed having fulfilled her role as Black Widow. The actress has now said that she wishes she had looked more closely into the early years of Black Widow and Hawkeye's romance. I'm thrilled that the reveal coincides with her comeback to the MCU. After Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. made their acting comebacks to the MCU, I think Marvel would encourage Johansson to follow suit.
The Black Widow film from Marvel is the ideal illustration of how to resolve the Hawkeye problem.
The MCU storyline for Black Widow provides the ideal framework for Johansson's comeback to the part and an exploration of her history with Renner's Hawkeye. Marvel Studios may learn from the Black Widow film, so they wouldn't have to reverse Natasha Romanoff's sacrifice. My hypothesis is that Johansson's Black Widow might make a comeback in a Black Widow sequel that is, at least in part, a precursor. I think it's a powerful concept for Clint Barton to honor Natasha on the anniversary of her passing. Their travels together might subsequently be followed through flashbacks.
Nevertheless, given the contentious nature of the Multiverse Saga, I think that the main goal of every future Marvel film will be to introduce significant new developments to the series. Therefore, Johansson returning as Natasha in Black Widow 2 might be possible with a partial prequel tale. Renner's Hawkeye and Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova might work together in the present to complete a case that he and Natasha previously collaborated on. The narrative can then jump about in time to demonstrate how Clint and Yelena's current mission is entwined with Black Widow and Hawkeye's previous exploits.
Johansson's Black Widow must return to Marvel before it's too late.
Even though I am now more optimistic that Johansson will play Black Widow in further roles, I am still concerned that a full-length project including the character may not be possible before Johansson's time is out. After Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, there are rumors that the MCU may get a reboot. If that's true, then after the relaunch, a fresh actress would probably play Natasha Romanoff. Additionally, Johansson would only get a brief opportunity to reprise her role as Black Widow in the MCU.
I still believe she might make a comeback at that time, but it would probably be in an Avengers film as a cameo or guest star, which would prevent her from making amends for her Hawkeye and Black Widow mistakes. After Avengers: Secret Wars, Renner may decide to leave the MCU, even if it isn't relaunched. Clint Barton has had a lengthy career, and with Renner recuperating from the snowplow accident and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop poised to succeed him, he may soon retire from Marvel. Johansson's return as Black Widow must thus occur soon.
