Roronoa Zoro vs Mihawk: Who Is Stronger Now?

Anime!

By MORZATPublished about a year ago 3 min read

In the vast universe of One Piece, strength, ambition, and determination define the journey of its characters. Among them, Roronoa Zoro and Dracule Mihawk stand as two of the most iconic swordsmen. Their rivalry is rooted in Zoro's unyielding resolve to surpass Mihawk, the world's greatest swordsman. As the series goes on, fans debate with great fervor: who is stronger now?

The Challenger: Roronoa Zoro

Roronoa Zoro is the first mate of Straw Hat Pirates, who is a powerhouse of dedication and raw talent. From the beginning, Zoro was focused on his dream of becoming the strongest swordsman, promised to his childhood friend Kuina. He's been through a journey that really showed an enormous growth in terms of strength and character.

Zoro's training with Mihawk during the time-skip was of utmost importance. Under the mentorship of the man he aims to surpass, Zoro honed his techniques and perfected his swordsmanship. After the time skip, Zoro's exploits are simply unmatched, as he has no trouble dispatching even high-grade opponents such as Pica, proving his unmatched might among the Straw Hats.

Enma, the sword that he has inherited from Kozuki Oden, has driven Zoro to new limits; this blade tests Zoro's ability in mastering immense haki as testimony of his ever-growing potential. In addition, his recent display of Conqueror's Haki against King also truly reveals his ascension into a realm of elite warriors.

However, Zoro himself acknowledges he has not yet reached Mihawk’s level. His respect for Mihawk as a rival and mentor underscores Zoro’s understanding of the gap he still needs to close.

The Legend: Dracule Mihawk

Dracule Mihawk is the embodiment of power and skill among swordsmen; he is more famously known as "Hawk-Eyes." He used to be part of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and thus, his name precedes him. He possesses the black blade Yoru and is well-accomplished and very peculiar with the sword.

Mihawk is an exception among the powerful Shichibukai; his sparring match with Shanks-one of the Yonko-shows his power to be rivaling the best in the world. Later, in the Marineford War, he showed off his strength by fighting calmly against Whitebeard's power.

While Mihawk's current strength is less showcased than Zoro's, one must remember that he is the benchmark at which Zoro aims to try and surpass. The title of the world's greatest swordsman does not come lightly, and no one has ever come forward to successfully refute it.

Who Has the Edge in Strength?

It now becomes a matter of experience against potential. Without question, Mihawk remains the epitome when it comes to swordsmanship. Composure, skill, and years of mastery give him an edge that Zoro has not yet fully attained.

However, Zoro is soon closing the gap. His feats more recently, especially his mastering of Enma and unleashing Conqueror's Haki, hint that he has almost reached Mihawk's level. It is only a question of time, training, and battles before Zoro achieves his ultimate goal.

A Rivalry Rooted in Respect

What makes this rivalry so compelling is the mutual respect between Zoro and Mihawk. Despite their differences, Mihawk has acted as both a mentor and a rival, guiding Zoro while maintaining his status as an unsurpassed swordsman.

On the other hand, Zoro is personification of unyielding determination; his growth reflects Mihawk's influence, where student and master feed off each other's evolution.

Conclusion: A Fight for the Future

Currently, Mihawk is still known as the strongest swordsman. Though powerfully strong, Zoro has much more to learn and achieve before he may finally overtake his master for real. The gap is closer than ever, however, and when that final conflict comes between the two titans, it will undoubtedly be one of the most highly awaited moments in One Piece.
