Risa Dorken celebrates a General Hospital milestone

Risa Dorken has been portraying Amy Driscoll on General Hospital since 2016 and has been compared to Shell Kepler's Nurse Amy Vining. Both women are young, blonde, manned the nurse's station, and have the gift of gab, and like to gossip but the comparisons stop there. Driscoll is her own woman and not a carbon copy of Vinning. Kepler was in the role from 1979- 2002 and she passed away in 2008 but her death was not addressed on the air. Sonya Eddy who portrayed Nurse Epiphany Johnson passed away in December and General Hospital dedicated an entire episode to her.

The actress was born Lisa Louise Dorken on February 4, 1991, in Apple Valley, Minnesota and has been married to Bo Clark since 2017. As for Amy, she is recurring on General Hospital and not on contract and not really involved in current storylines. A recent poll, however, by Soap Opera Digest revealed that 88% of over 300 individuals who responded thus far said they would like to see more of the character onscreen.

Who is minding the Hospital in Port Charles?

Lately, on General Hospital, Nurse Elizabeth Webber seems to be in charge as there have not been doctors involved in recent weeks. Neither Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton), Terry, Randolph (Cassandra James), Austin Gatlin Holt, (Roger Howarth), or Monica Quartermaine, (Leslie Charleson) have been hands-on and this past week all been MIA. Each year after the Nurses Ball viewers hope Amy, Felix, and Nurse Deana Sirtis ((Dioni Michelle Collins) will get more screen time but so farther have not.

Amy went to Port Charles High School with Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) who bullied her but now the two have become friends. Much like Mark Anthony Samuelwho portrays Felix Dubois Amy is usually only front and center lately when it is time for the General Hospital Nurses Ball. She recently told Soap OperaDigest that she is grateful for the opportunity each time she is called to portray Nurse Driscoll.

Risa Dorken has been bullied online

The last time Amy was front and center in Port Charles was February 2022 when she tried to stop her brother Chet Driscoll (Chris Van Etten) from dating her boss Doctor Terry Randolph ( Cassandra James). Amy was afraid that if the duo remained together it would cause problems for her so she filled out an application in her sibling's name and he was accepted for a job in Chicago.

Dorken said in 2020 that she received negativity online from fans because of her hefty size. She went on a diet and exercise program during the pandemic and did not become pencil slim but is now at a weight that she feels comfortable with. Dorken is not alone in regard to online bullying because several of her General Hospital castmates have experienced the same. Storms who plays Maxie, Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall), Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne, and Tabyanna Ali (Trinia Robinson) have faced hate from GH viewers.

GH viewers say yes to Amy

Amy Vinning use to listen to every word that was said by those she encountered at GH and often put her own spin on situations. This caused numerous misunderstandings and hard feelings. Driscoll could be developed by the General Hospital writers so that she does not go in the same direction. As far as dating it would seem that men in Amy's age range are in short supply in Port Charles.

If the writers put their minds to it they could find a way to insert Deanna, Felix, and Amy into what is taking place around them. On Monday it was Deanna who Tait (Katelynn MacMullen that Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati)had arrived from Greenland and it was time to prep for the first round of her bone marrow transplant. Be sure to stay tuned to General Hospital tofind out if the executives will heed the voice of the fans and give them more of Amy. Congratulations to Risa Dorken on 7 years of portraying Nurse Amy Driscoll .
