Power Rangers Reboot

Let's get powerful

Hasbro owns Power Rangers. Toei owns Super Sentai.

Welcome! My name is Jared Weathers and I am a nerd. This is gonna be interesting for me as I was a Power Rangers fan when I was a kid and I have since gotten back into that and the original Super Sentai show PR is based on. Disney+ is getting a new show about the Power Rangers from Hasbro. I am gonna give some things I want to see and do some history for people who maybe never saw it or people who want a nostalgia trip. Let's go.

History

Super Sentai started in 1975 in Japan with Himistu Sentai Gorenger but Power Rangers was still a bit off. Businessman Haim Saban was on a business trip in Japan when this show came on TV. Choudenshi Bioman was on the TV and it intrigued Saban. In 1985, Saban made a pilot for a new tv show. This did not go great as it was sort of rushed. He tried again with Fox kids and they loved it so they adapted the currently airing show Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. It became what we know today as Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. It spawned a 30-year franchise and became one of the highest grossing children's franchise of all time.

The Problem with Power Rangers

Now while I do love PR, the owners have had a problem. While they have had so many seasons and with Toei making so many seasons, from Saban to Disney to Saban again, they always want to go to back to MMPR. Like the revisit of MMPR on Jetix or the reboot movie in 2017. I have seen some set pictures of a new MMPR series being made for YouTube, I believe. We need to put a spotlight on more than just one season.

The New Power Rangers

Now I have tried to stay in the loop, as I am hoping for a new series. Something not with MMPR. Of course, I did not grow up with Mighty Morphin' and that might be the reason I am sick of the MMPR reboots. My favorite season is Lightspeed and I don't need everything to be centered around that team, I would like to shine some light on other seasons. Although, I have read that the new series for Disney+ is gonna be all new. Until we know for sure, we should all have an open mind especially myself. I will report on more when we get more.

What we can learn from the past

Now of course, we need to keep in mind that while we don't want to retread the past, we can always learn from it. This is a kid's show but we don't need fluff in Power Rangers. Episodes that do nothing for the storylines or the kids watching them. We can keep the lessons and stuff. Streaming I think can help this. Having shorter season orders, adding more time for episodes where you can flesh out the characters better. Make it linear not so episodic. Like I know MMPR had an overarching story but most of it was episodic, where they would fight monsters but it wouldn't really affect them next week.

The Future

I do like the idea of the show being on Disney+. I am excited to watch it, and maybe review it as well. I will recommend every to give it a try and maybe even my 15-year-old brother who did not get to watch Power Rangers. Maybe even get some of the wrestler parody rangers in it. Maybe even an official crossover with Sentai. I do believe in Hasbro and in what they are doing. I did like the live action Transformer movies, I even saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in theaters. We will see, hopefully soon. I haven't seen an official timeline as of yet.
