Outer Banks | Netflix Original TV Series Review
Another teen drama to get obsessed with...
Another day of lock-down meant another day of watching random additions to Netflix's extensive catalogue. Thats what led me to the latest trend worth show 'Outer Banks'.
It looked pretty cool, the trailer seemed to be exciting and action packed, then of course there was the fact that everyone on the show seems to be absolutely gorgeous. So I spent a good day binge-watching the whole show.
Synopsis
A group of teenagers in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, called "Pogues", are determined to find out what happened to the missing father of the group's ringleader, John B. They soon discover a legendary treasure that is tied to John B's father.
Chased by the law and a wealthy superior group called the "Kooks", the Pogues seek to overcome obstacles such as drugs, love, fighting, friendship, money and how the rich keep on winning in order to complete John B's father's goal that he had been working on for 20 years.
What did I think?
From episode one I found myself really enjoying the show - it was cheesy without being rubbish and cringey, while also balancing action with the teen-angst fairly well. It also worked very well as a first episode as it had me hooked and made me want to watch the rest of the series.
I'm not ashamed to say that there were many moments in this show where I managed to shed a tear. The acting during these scenes was just so intense and well-performed that I just couldn't help it - plus I think being in lockdown has made me even more emotional so there was no helping it.
Ignoring the many love triangles and relationships that started to pop up throughout the show, the other relationships that appeared throughout were great. The "Pouges" just seemed like your everyday friendship group, with any romantic love that made its way in forcing them to re-consider how their group functions.
My favourite moments...
- The first episode: of course, from what I wrote above, you can probably already tell that I enjoyed the first episode. It just really epitimised the show for what it is and set up the series for everything that was to come. Then there was the teen drama, oh god I just enjoyed watching the teen-angst unfold.
- Eye-Candy: this whole section is incredibly shallow, but my god were the people on this show good-looking. I want to say that its the main reason they had the show set somewhere with sunny and warm weather so everyone just wondered around in loose clothing.
- So many emotions: yeah as much teen-angst that was crammed into this show, there were many moment where the actors were given the chance to really show off their acting chops, and boy did they deliver. There were many emotional speeches that made me tear up and then others that had me in absolute bits.
In conclusion...
When it comes down to it, I very much enjoyed this show, it made me feel all of the emotions. There were moments of laughter, whether it was because of the cringe cliches or because there were moments of actual hilarity. Then there were the moments that made me cry; so many emotional speeches where all the characters and myself just ugly cried.
I just hope that the rumours of a second series is going to come to light. I found so much enjoyment in watching this show. It was an easy watch with enough action and emotion to be enjoyable by anyone really. If thats not enough to convince you to give the show a go, then if you enjoy pretty good-looking surfers then at least watch the first episode!
