My Thoughts on the 'Ghostbusters Afterlife' Trailer
Who you gonna call?

The new trailer for Ghostbusters Afterlife has just dropped and it looks pretty interesting. The first I thing I noticed is the small town setting that the film is set in, considering that the first two films were set in New York City. I also noticed the new characters which include a mom and her two kids. One of which is Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things (most of you know that by now). Also, the other sibling is McKenna Grace who plays his sister.
I will not be discussing every element of the trailer just my thoughts and suggestions. From what I have noticed, the tone seems pretty light-hearted, some action and suspense of course, but not a lot of dark overtones. The theme of the trailer in my opinion might be this. Relatives from one of the Ghostbusters members (possibly Egon) move to their inherited house. Then they discover strange occurrences in the area, moving lights and odd noises. These attract the attention of a local seismologist (Paul Rudd) who notices a strange substance underground that is possibly starting earthquakes.
This leads the younger character, Grace, to find the iconic Ghostbusters gear. This includes the uniforms, ghost traps, PKE Meter, and the trusty Ecto-1 vehicle. The rest of the kids discover the items and this is when things get serious. I see various glimpses of different ghosts and other strange things, but nothing clear. I believe this is good, because showing too much now, could ruin the surprise and excitement of seeing it in theaters. Although, I do have a feeling that it's Slimer, the fan favorite ghost of the franchise.
One thing thing that I have noticed, is that some people are referring Afterlife as a reboot. This irks me because it's not a reboot, it is continuing what the original films started. Therefore, it would be appropriate to call it a continuation. It is annoying considering how much reboots are coming out now.
Now as to rather the original Ghostbusters will show up: Winston, Peter, and Ray are highly possible. Sadly, we won't be seeing Egon, as Harold Ramis, the actor who portrayed him passed away some years ago. His legacy will not be forgotten. I'm sure the film will honor him in some way.
One important thing that's on the minds of many fans, is who is the main antagonist? In the past, we have seen the likes of Gozer the Gozarian, Vego, and a host of other ghostly beings. However, it might not be an old villain at all, but a new threat for the team to take on. Personally, I would like to see a new villain that is creative and challenging. Also, I have heard that the Stay Puft may return. Whether this is true or not, is up for debate. I would love for him to return, as he didn't have a lot of screen time in the first film.
One thing I did notice in the trailer, was a scene of a man near a wall of keys. To those who are familiar with the Key master, this could be a hint of this character or someone similar appearing in the movie. However, this is just a base theory. One other interesting bit in the trailer, is a tall stack of books. Remind you of something? In the first film, the library scene shows a stack of books, so I see it as a nice Easter egg.
Furthermore, from what I've seen, the trailer as gotten a positive response from others. I still would want to wait and see what the tone and content of the movie may be. That's my thoughts and I hope to see what unfolds in this film.
