My Thoughts About the 'Brave New World' Trailer

What you need to know before seeing this superhero film

By Mark Wesley Pritchard Published about a year ago 3 min read

A new year brings new movies. This year, a total of 50 films are scheduled to be released in theaters. Among the slate of movies is Captain America: Brave New World. A fitting Valentine's Day release is a perfect time for you and your significant other to see this superhero film. Or if you're single like myself, this is also the movie that you should go and see. The 35th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, stars Anthony Mackie, Giancarlo Esposito, and legendary actor Harrison Ford. However, I dislike Valentine's Day for a number of reasons. First, I feel like it makes single people like me feel miserable. Second, it's too commercialized and forced onto those who don't have a romantic partner to spend this day with. Third, it puts too much emphasis on highlighting couples expressing their love for one another in commercials and other forms of media. It's not to say those are bad things to promote. I've been single for a little over five years. In 2019, I was engaged to be married in March 2020. However, complications made it impossible for me and the man I was with at the time to make our wedding happen. I won't go into details, but we mutually decided to part ways, even though we loved each other very much. I'm nearing 40 and haven't given up on finding love again.

Now that I'm done ranting, we now return to our regularly scheduled program.

According to the synopsis, Captain America, also known as Sam Wilson, played by Mackie, is in the middle of an international incident after meeting with President Thaddeus Ross (Ford). He has to figure out the reason behind a heinous global plot before the true culprit forces the entire world seeing red.

I've seen this trailer several times and I'm already looking forward to viewing this movie solo. One thing you might not know about me is that I'm a huge fan of Marvel movies. While watching the trailer, the one character besides Captain America, that I'm looking forward to seeing is Harrison Ford's character The Red Hulk.

According to IMDb, the film is projected to earn around $115 million on opening weekend and close to $700 million worldwide on a $400 million budget. Also, it has a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing.

The run time for Brave New World is around 2 hours and 4 minutes with one-post credit scene. If you're new to Marvel movies, watching post-credit scenes are required. For the most part, they're hilarious and a must-watch. For several years, I cosplayed anytime a Marvel movie was going to be released in theaters, mostly Spider-Man movies wearing different suits. I've since retired from cosplay and don't have plans on dressing up to see one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Instead, I'll wear something nerdy, but nothing too formal. Since I don't have a romantic partner, I'll treat myself for a night at my local movie theater. It wouldn't be the first time I would see a movie alone on Valentine's Day. I saw Sonic the Hedgehog over five years ago. I wore a nice casual jacket, a Sonic shirt, jeans, and dress shoes. Besides, being single and nearing 40 isn't entirely a bad thing.

If you haven't seen the Brave New World trailer, I highly recommend it. I give it two thumbs up. I'm still planning on seeing the movie, but I'll treat February 14 as a regular day.
