My Review of "Wrecked: Season 1"

This is like a parody of the TV show Lost. Don't worry, this parody was done right.

Wrecked was not even on my radar when a friend of mine had suggested it to me. I've never heard of it but my friend told me it was a must watch. He was a person to be trusted because he had suggested Parks and Recreation to me and got me hooked to that. I have to say that he's 2 for 2 for TV comedies.

So Wrecked is basically similar to a parody of the TV show Lost except without the mysticism closer to the end of the Lost series. Basically there's a plane that is heading to Thailand and unfortunately it makes a crash landing on a remote island. There are a few survivors of the aircraft and their new mission is to survive until they get rescued.

In this season of Wrecked there's a divide between the group. Some of the people want to get off the island while others want to stay because their lives on the island are infinitely better than they were back home.

There's also fights within the group. Each of the characters on the island have such distinct personalities but they are so comically extreme that these fights are usually very comedic and fall into additional comedic situations.

There isn't really a main character in this series. Each character at times has their own little story for an episode. They have Owen, played by Zach Cregger. He was a flight attendant that hated his job and basically wants to go home.

Then there's Danny, played by Brian Sacca, he's a mysterious character that's got dad issues and pretends to be a police officer so that the islanders will respect him. He seems to be fine with being on the island but there's great mystery about this character.

Emma, played by Ginger Gonzaga and Florence, played by Jessica Lowe, are also main characters. These two are best friends that find new things about each other that make them question their friendship with one another.

Then we have Todd, played by Will Greenberg and Jess, played by Ally Maki. They play a couple that soon realize that maybe they shouldn't be a couple anymore. Their relationship seems to become very complicated as the episodes continue.

Finally there's Steve, played by Rhys Darby and Karen, played by Brooke Dillman. Steve is a nobody that continues to change throughout the season. There are layers to him that we slowly get to learn about. Karen is a provider for the islanders. She gains more and more power throughout the season. These two become arguably the funniest of the islanders by the end of the season.

I was pleasantly surprised by this comedy. I didn't think I'd get into as much as I did. The season really hooked me in with some of the absurd situations that the islanders get themselves into. I'm shocked at all the craziness that the writers could imagine. They added a lot of interesting elements like mental well-being and wanting to stay on the island because island life is better than their original home life. I like this added sense of imagination to the writing of the episodes.

Overall, this is a hilarious ride from start to finish. It even ends off with a pretty good cliffhanger. I just hope that this series doesn't go off the rails as the Lost TV series did. There's only so much that you can write for a group of people on an island I guess. That's probably what killed off Lost after a while. I will have to give this season an 8 for hooking me into the series. I can't wait to binge through the second season. It's a series that I can safely tell others to watch as well.
