My Review of "Watchmen (TV Series)
This is very close to what I thought the sequel to the Watchmen would have went.

I've been a fan of the Watchmen since my younger brother had introduced me to the book when I was in my early 20's. Until that time I always thought superhero comics were just about men in tights trying to save the world. This is the first comic that changed my thought of what comics could be. It had a whole slew of dimension to each of the characters.
Years later the Watchmen movie came out in 2009. I was dumbfounded at how similar it was to the comic. Of course there were a few things that were omitted due to the size of the comic and the runtime of the film. There were also noticeable changes such as the ending of the movie. Most importantly they got the characters and the story right. It had a good feel and I thought it was a good interpretation of the comic.
Fans have been clamoring for a sequel to the Watchmen for decades but it never came out. This is when this Watchmen TV series came out. I originally thought it was going to retell the original story but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't.
This TV series takes place years after the Watchmen book. Rorschach's book has been found and all of the original superheroes have gone their separate ways. This introduces a new story for a new hero and her name is Angela. She's a complicated hero in this very complicated new world.
The giant squid has scared everyone in the world to assemble to fight the new inter-dimensional squid nemesis. We have Ozymandias to thank for this clever "world peace" that the world is enjoying.
The united states has even tried to make amends for the mistreatment of black Americans with reparations and knowledge centers so that the public can be educated of the atrocities that had happened in the country's past.
Of course this doesn't bode well with everyone. There will always be hate and discrimination. We see that racist groups still exist with secret organizations. People will get angry when you take power away from them obviously and this is a common theme in this series.
Angela is a great police officer but officers have to hide their identity due to some of these extremist organizations. This results in her creating a superhero alter ego known as Sister Night.
The show basically starts by quickly explaining who the main characters are. One of the big characters in the show gets murdered and then the movie goes from 0 to 100 really fast.
There are a ton of secrets that Angela will unfold throughout the season. It's very well paced because with each reveal comes another question. My appetite for each reveal would continually be teased and never satiated. That's a sign of a TV series that I can really get into.
I really got into this series too. All of the characters were really fleshed out with various backstories that were a result of the events of the original book. The Minute Men and the Watchmen had a great influence on the world and it's apparent in all of their back stories.
What's really impressive was that they didn't change any Watchmen lore from the original book and kept it going. Fans of the original book will definitely love the direction of the series and I think they'll love the tone that they used to tell the story as well.
Overall, if you are a fan of the Watchmen you have to watch this series. It's really that good. I'm not sure how people that haven't seen the Watchmen would react to this series though. They do a pretty good job in reminding me of the events of the Watchmen so I assume everyone would be able to pick it up pretty quickly. I have to give this season a 8.5 out of 10. I really liked it and those that haven't seen Watchmen might be enticed to see it after they've finished this season.
