My Review of "Predators"
This is a very underappreciated movie in the Predator franchise. I don't know why people hate it so much.

Predators is a one off adventure based in the Predators franchise. It came out back in 2010 and for some reason not a lot of people talk about this movie. I thought it was great when I first saw this movie back when it first came out. It's been a long time so I thought maybe I'd check this movie out again to see if my opinion had changed. Why is this movie so underappreciated? Does it deserve to be ignored by the Predator fans?
The movie starts off quite mysteriously. We have our main protagonist Royce falling in the sky. He's in the same situation as us as he doesn't know what's going on. Luckily his parachute opens up on time for him to survive the dive.
When he reaches the ground he meets up with other people that mysteriously survived the fall as well. They all seem to be grizzled fighters of some kind. Each of them come from all sorts of walks of life. None of them know why they're there but they did have the same experience before they were abducted and sent to this wild forest.
Pretty soon they start deducting that they're there because they're predators of some kind and something out there is hunting them. These killers all have to band together in order to survive whatever craziness comes down their way. There will be a ton of craziness too!
The intensity of the scenes were done quite well and the pacing was really sharp. There's no real lulls in this movie. At certain points of watching this movie I found that it could feel somewhat like a video game movie. In some ways I think this was the precursor to the whole Pub G/Fortnight video game franchises. The whole premise of these games is right here in this movie only a decade before they were created.
I think the big issue that everyone has with this movie is probably the doctor character that they had in the movie. His character does really seem off brand and in a weird tone than the rest of the movie. You'd think that the other characters would question his existence a little more. Maybe he could have had a bigger role in the whole situation? This is probably the biggest issue with the movie that I could see people having. Still I don't think that this really warrants the hate for this movie.
The action sequences in this movie are really well done. I commend them with their special effects, costume design and practical effects in this movie as well. Even for a movie this old, everything still looks fantastic. You can see that they put a lot of work and research into this movie.
This movie was made with a lot of love and care. I could tell that the makers were huge fans of the original movie. There are so many easter eggs and homages sprinkled throughout this movie. Yet it still remains it's own thing. It's not really a rehash of the original or any other in its franchise so I have them points for originality as well.
Overall, I really liked this movie still after so many years. It goes to show that you can't judge movies by the hype the internet gives it. If you're a fan of the franchise you really owe it to yourself to give this one a watch. It's mostly on brand with the franchise and it's a very original concept. I only wished they created a sequel for this one because it really warranted one. I have to give this movie a 7.5 out of 10.
