My Review of "Fierce Creatures"
This is a very clever and funny movie. I'm glad I finally got to check it out.

Fierce Creatures is a comedy that came out in 1997. I vaguely remember this movie but was never interested in seeing it. Seeing it now, I kind of understand that my younger self would never have the intelligence nor the maturity to understand this movie. Today, I can appreciate the clever writing behind the movie.
It all starts out with a woman named Willa. She's a new hire for a billionaire named Rod. Like most billionaires in movies, Rod is an absolutely horrible person. His son Vince is not that much better. Vince has an infatuation with Willa. That's only one part of the story.
We have another part of the story and this takes place in the United Kingdom. Here we have a struggling zoo run by an ex-police officer named Rollo. He's not a bad guy but he has to be to keep his staff in order. The staff is very eccentric and dedicated to the animals. Rod happens to own this zoo as well.
The zoo hasn't been doing great lately. Their sales figures have been down and they need to upkeep a 20% profit margin to stay afloat. Rollo has the grand idea to only display fierce animals to help promote the zoo to the public. He believes that violence sells and this is the best way to draw the customers back into the zoo. What we get is hilarious banter between Rollo and his staff. They of course want to keep their animals and do everything in their power to show how fierce they are.
Despite Rollo's best efforts, the zoo is still at a loss. This brings Willa, Vince and Rod to come to the zoo to decide its fate. Willa actually wants to make a profitable zoo but she has to deal with Vince and Rod at the same time. Their interactions are quite funny as well. Vince is a lecherous fiend and Rod is an egotistical sociopath.
This movie does a great job in directing the audience into jokes. I can see what the punchline of the scenes are but I can't wait until it happens. They make a lot of fun jokes here. I particularly like how Rollo is invertedly perceived as a perverted ladies man by the people that would hate and love it the most.
The miscommunication is also hilarious. There is a lot of dramatic irony used to convey some of the jokes as well. We as the audience understand each side's perspective and understand the truth of the matter. What plays out is hilarious because we can see how each of the sides can be hurt or disgusted by the other side. Really everyone is kind of innocent, with the exception of Vince and Rod.
Vince and Rod, are played by the same actor in such a beautiful way. They're both horrible people but so dynamically different from one another. Their evil is pure laughter because of how absurdly bad they are. It's really funny how they don't see how bad they are and think it's just a regular everyday thing to do.
The rest of the cast do a great job in bringing the wild exuberance of the staff. They're so different from one another. You'd think that because there are so many it would be easier to just make them generic. They are so different from one another and each have their own wild personalities.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I'm glad I finally got a chance to check it out. The ending is pretty weak but it feels kind of on brand with the rest of the movie. This is a thoroughly funny movie from start to end. I wholeheartedly suggest this movie to anyone. It is very clever and I would definitely watch it again. This movie gets an 8.5 out of 10 for me.

Your insights into the movie’s absurdities and the ways it contrasts with other comedies were spot on. I also appreciated how you touched on the film's satirical elements while still acknowledging the fun and absurdity of it all. You’ve definitely piqued my interest to revisit it! Great job with the review—your perspective made me appreciate the film in a new light.
