My Review of "Bleeding Steel"

A movie that seemed like all the cut scenes of an action movie put together with no game-play.

Bleeding Steel is a low budget action movie that stars Jackie Chan so I was expecting non-stop action. That is kind of what I got with this movie. I had to remind myself that it's the action that I'm looking for but what kind of action can I expect from a guy in his mid 60's. Shocking a lot! Still this is a really uneven movie with tons of weird inconsistencies that give this movie that can seem a little too far fetched.

This movie starts off with the main character Lin racing to the hospital to see his daughter at her death's bed. He pretty much breaks absolutely every single rule about driving. He's driving on the sidewalk into a garage and jumps out of the garage at breakneck speeds and even has the audacity to talk on his cell phone while driving. When the world is trying to refrain from from doing all this stuff here's an action superstar doing this stuff on the big screen to promote it. Bleh, but I get it.

He's basically told that his team is out to protect some doctor and the doctor's invention from some nefarious villain named Andre. Lin is torn between seeing his daughter and doing his duty. Ultimately he chooses to try to save the world instead. In real life I the the police force wouldn't have him working since he's a liability issue since his head isn't on right, but this is a movie so let's go Lin!

When Andre comes into the scene he's basically this invincible monster fighting the police force. Pretty much everyone gets messed up at by the end of the scene. I don't even know how Lin or the doctor even survived the whole ordeal. Then again if I should know that all of the characters in Jackie Chan movies are basically cartoon characters.

Soon after they jump 13 years later and we move to Sydney, Australia. There's this young woman named Nancy that is doing everyday things and we see Lin spying on her like a creepy old man. We obviously know that it's his daughter.

To add to the fun they've added this new character Leeson who is trying to work his charms on Nancy. There's more to Leeson than we realize. He's interested in Nancy as she might have some information he's looking for. They don't really tell you what his motives are until later in the movie.

I do have an issue with the Leeson character because he doesn't seem very consistent to the movie. His character is definitely a comic relief character but he is so over the top that it doesn't really mesh with the consistency of the vibe of the movie.

I thought Leeson was a little too much. He was funny in certain scenes but it was really wasn't consistent with the movie. They really have to read the room. There are a few inconsistent scenes due to this Leeson character. His character really threw me for a loop.

It's kind of expected in Jackie Chan movie since they always have weird comic relief in his movies but the Leeson character almost makes it a little too cartoony. Jackie has always kind of nuanced the comedy into his movies.

Again because it's a Jackie Chan movie we watch it for the action not for the story. There are quite a bit of action in this movie but its obviously nowhere near the levels of the old Jackie Chan. That's expected though. The guy is in his mid 60's. It's actually more impressive since you know how old he is. He's really starting to look his age and when you see the stuff that he does you'll be really impressed. I hope I'll be able to do half the stuff he can by the time I get to his age.

Overall, yes this movie is fun in a sort of video game cut scene kind of fun. it really felt as though it was all the cut scenes from a video game merged into a movie. It's a lazy way of playing a video game. Just watch the cut scenes and not have to work to get to the story. I have to give this movie a 6.5 out of 10. It was an okay movie but nothing to write home about. If you're a Jackie Chan fan no score will will prevent you from watching this movie.
