My Review of "Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill"

If you're familiar with the work of the comedians featured here. You know exactly what you're getting yourself into.

Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill has recently dropped onto Netflix's ever growing expansion of stand-up comedy specials. It's exclusive to Netflix and it seemed to have been taped pretty recently. Although some of the jokes may seem a little dated.

We open with Bill Burr opening the show up the only way he knows how. You have to understand Bill Burr's dark sense of humor. He's always been joking around about ways to decrease the Earth's population. The pandemic is a pretty obvious source of material for him. He plays upon different angles of looking at the pandemic and current events. Each of the jokes will lean both liberal and conservative juggling a balance of ways to offend both sides. I had a pretty good laugh a lot of the jokes. His timing and delivery of course sell the jokes even harder for me.

He then starts off with Michelle Wolf. I'm familiar with her work but haven't followed her comedy that often. This special made me reconsider because I thought she killed it on stage. She was one of the comedians that really stood out for me. Her topics were very poignant with great observations. It doesn't hurt that she brought up things that some people may be too shy to bring up.

Another really big standout comedian was Steph Tolev. This woman had me in hysterics. Her physical comedy was downright hilarious. If there was ever a person that I would say you need to see it's this woman right here. I never even heard of her prior to this special but now I'm hungry for more. Most of the comedy from her came from her delivery and the character that she adds to each of her jokes. If anything I see people casting her in comedic movies. She has a stage presence that has to be seen for you to understand why I think she's amazing.

I think that's one of the best things about this comedy special. It had a great variety of comedians. They have such different types of humor and they're all from different backgrounds. This is a great way to highlight new talent or even showcase ones that we're familiar with.

I was hoping Ronny Chieng would have some material to give us rather than singing a song but I guess that's a bit of a gag itself on us as the audience. With his name on the bill some will expect him to be giving us some jokes.

Of the comedy specials recently this special had me belly laugh a few times. I don't know if that makes me a bad person because some of the laughs were from pretty dark jokes. A lot of the jokes were quite inappropriate but that's what comedy is at times. They even say it in the show that you can always have comedy but you can't have comedy with certain people.

Fortunately there weren't a lot of jokes trying to make statements and teach us the ways of being a good person. It more like a bunch of old friends telling jokes with one another not worried that the jokes will leak and get them cancelled. There felt like there was a little sense of freedom in their jokes.

Oddly enough I don't know if the audience was totally into it. The crowd audio was a bit down so I couldn't really make out if they were really enjoying it as much as I was. They didn't seem to be disappointed when the camera was on them. In fact they looked like they were having a great time but the background crowd sound didn't really mirror that.

Overall, I had a really good time watching this special. I don't think everyone will be able to get into this special because there are really dark matters that they talk about. If you're familiar with some of the comedians on the bill you should be fine though. I have to give this special a 7.5 out of 10. it is a really good special that I would recommend.
