Mr David Lynch - My Second Favourite Film Director
There will never be another quite like him

My second favourite film director
has passed away today.
The magic man showed us
The illusions of the waking life and the
Meanings behind the curtain.
His memory remains in many varied works -
In artwork, multiple short films and CINEMA.
Including eleven feature films, countless music videos and
Two music albums including “Crazy Clown Time”,
(I love a few songs off that album.) 🤡😄
He is also in a fascinating documentary (not directed by him)
Chronicling David Lynch’s artistic approach to abstract art entitled
“The Art Life”- and yes he surely lived it -
Ahh! - if only we could all live such a rich life - yet I know for me
He definitely made mine richer,
Reading about this films, studying these, even defying course texts at Uni
and choosing to write a paper on “Mulholland Drive”!

Then there was the peak TV of “Twin Peaks”,
25 years later there was “The Return” (to Twin Peaks) which was even
Richer, more macabre and brain-teasing,
Like a genre-bending 18 hour R-rated movie,
Comparable to some of his best work.
To be gifted with that piece of art,
Full of horror, offbeat comedy and charming characters
And to have Lynch back playing one of the main characters was a joy!
It’s something to savour as it gets better with each viewing.

That’s the thing I love about some directors,
that we are able not to just peek inside their soul,
but to live alongside it for a time,
gain insight into their personality, their fears,
explore their interests and to thus see the
world a little differently.

Let’s not forget, “The Elephant Man” -
A moving, haunting & tragic masterpiece filled with such
Warmth of spirit, such humanity, or the G- rated Disney film
“The Straight Story” - superlative, beautifully performed and directed,
With stunning cinematography and a ‘small’ story so lovingly offbeat
It could only be true - and directed by David Lynch.
*
Then there’s “Mulholland Drive” the
Hollywood masterpiece about identity and
the fabric of Tinseltown - finding one’s self amongst the mire.
17 years after viewing it in cinemas
my life eerily echoed a particular scene in the film.
That scene, and that moment in my life will stay with me “forever”.

He was an ideas man and
ideas are my favourite thing in this world -
I’ll miss you Mr Lynch.
Thanks for your sparks of energy that have created a ripple effect,
You will be much missed and remembered.

A couple of quotes:
“This whole world's wild at heart and weird on top.” - Lula (Laura Dern from “Wild at Heart”)
While I knew David Lynch was big on Trascendental Meditation I had not previously read this specific quote below but love it!
David Lynch on happiness:
“There is this unbounded, infinite, eternal, level, ocean, within every human being. Inner happiness comes with consciousness, bliss, intelligence comes with it. Creativity, love. Human beings have a potential and it has names like enlightenment or fulfilment, or liberation. True happiness is not out there, true happiness lies within.
They say beauty is only skin deep but it's this stuff coming from the inside, absolute vibrant consciousness, absolute bliss.”

Quick Note: Thanks very much for reading. There were many other brilliant films to reference, yet these are just a few from his filmography that I wanted to highlight. You can also check out my 50 word review/critiques of two of his films below that I wrote many moons ago.

I love Lynch. This is a great tribute to a great filmmaker and man.
I only know his name really, as opposed to his filmography, but I know he had a huge impact on cinema. “ at we are able not to just peek inside their soul, but to live alongside it for a time”- lovely line Grz. We can see how they see the world, and the stories they want to tell!
Awesome to read
Nice story 🥰
Hey G! How are you? I'm watching Trap with Josh Hartnett. I think you may get a kick out of it! It is a psychological thriller! Have you seen it yet?
An incredible man and great piece
Super! And congrats on TS!

Congratulations on your Top Story!🎉🎉🎉
Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
Congrats on TS🎉 I loved Twin Peaks and I love in PNW. I didn’t see The Straight Story, but will look it up. Mulholland Drive was amazing. 🫶🏻
What a great tribute to David Lynch. He is also one of my favorites. I am especially a fan of The Elephant Man. John Hurt did a spectacular job in that film. But my favorite Lynch film is his first and probably weirdest; Eraserhead - I love that movie!!!
What a wonderful tribute to an amazing director. Great anthology of his works herein, too. There will never be another quite like the man, the genius.
Back to say Congrats on your Top Story! Way to go G-zy! 💪🏾🏆
Yay! Back to say congrats. On Top Story. But...also...lol. Just realised I read this but didn't comment. lol. Anyway...glad to see our stories about the great man getting Top Story. Loved this so much and glad you persevered with it. Between yours, Sean Patrick's review of Blue Velvet and Kendal's piece, I think justice has been served to honour the man!
This was such a wonderful tribute to him and I wish he could read it. May his soul rest in peace
What a wonderful tribute G! I never knew much about him prior to this piece. Also, I didn't know that he directed the elephant man! Man what a classic! Lana took the words out of my mouth. Who is your favorite director?
Such a great tribute to the legend! And who’s your first favorite director?
RIP to a legend. This is a great tribute
