Most overrated films

In my humble opinion

If you can't tell I'm very opinionated. I absolutely love movies and like anybody who loves movies, there's plenty of films I hate. And I don't mean films I love to hate, that's another list for another day. This list just a list of films I hate period that for some reasons many others absolutely love.

Cloverfield

I will never understand the hype behind a monster film that never features the monster. Especially when their human characters are so boring and forgettable. The only memorable part of this film for me was the fact TJ Miller happened to be in this film, but that's it. I hated the shaky cam, but I get it and it was the right move. Also the action scenes at best were just trailer bait, but as a whole were completely lack luster. Usually I try to give movies the benefit of the doubt and mention portions I like and sometimes even love, but I genuinely can't find any for the original Cloverfield. Yet, a significant amount of people love this film and I don't understand why. It's not even self aware enough to be like a; "San Andreas" or "2012".

But 10 Cloverfield Lane, now that film is significantly better to me. For reasons why I'll be attaching my article "B+ films" as to why I love 10 Cloverfield Lane. Shameless self plug for the win guys.

A streetcar Named Desire

I'm going to say something incredibly controversial, I genuinely think Marlon Brando is the most overrated actor in all of history. I don't get it, I loathe just about all of his movies. I can't stand them, and why I was forced to watch this in high school was beyond me. I couldn't stand this film, and the "iconic" part in the film where all he does it scream "Stella!" is so boring and annoying. The best part about this film, was the scene in "The Disaster Artist" when James Franco as Tommy Wiseau reenacts that "Stella" scene.

Dunkirk

Similarly to my complaints with Avatar, I feel like Dunkirk was just a gimmick film. "Oh well to fully appreciate the film it has to be seen in x,y,z medium." Okay, but what about the actual story? Completely nonexistent plot, at least Avatar had a plot. An unoriginal and uninspired plot if you ask me, but it was still there. And sure I guess you can say the disorientation and lack of understanding what's going on is supposed to be the point. So we can feel like those soldiers desperately trying to escape to safety. Personally if I'm in the mood for a war movie with a little bit of a gimmick, I'll watch 1917. Now to be fair, they're not the same gimmick. 1917 was about the single take film, which was done pretty well. But the ending was virtually the same, just finally being able to relax after an incredibly tiring and terrifying journey. But 1917 was significantly better, go watch that film instead.

Joker

I'm probably going to regret saying this since I know I will get a TON of hate for this but I'm sorry, I didn't get the hype of "Joker". As a movie it's actually very well done, I know that sounds like a weird statement to say but bear with me. Cinematography, script, pacing, acting, all of the bases are good. There are also very specific scenes I'm about to mention that I absolutely love. The scenes are; when we start to see that the memories of Arthur and Sophie were all fabricated in Arthur's mind. Also when Arthur gives out his card explaining his disorder, that's a small detail with a massive effect on the character that I wouldn't mind being canon for this Joker.

But then like an hour later they take that back and go, JUST KIDDING! Same goes for the joker's mom, JUST KIDDING! That trope got really old really quickly. It fit with the Sophie but with his laugh, why??? Why did we need to retcon that point in the same movie?? So frustrating.

Also I didn't really get the point of the dancing. I may need to have someone explain this quirk to me. Honestly, with Arthur's Joker it actually seems out of place. The dancing I'd reserve for Jack Nicholson's Joker and even Heath Ledger's jokers. It just seems more fitting for their Jokers. Heath's Joker would probably be literally dancing on someone's grave. That I could see.

Last but not least the crazy dependence on shoe horning the Wayne family was so annoying. It's one of the most infuriating part of being a DC fan, just about every single story has to involve one of the big three somehow someway, that big 3 being Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. I hate how they couldn't tell a compelling Joker story without forcing the Wayne's in even though Bruce is nowhere close to becoming Batman yet. And oh, YET AGAIN! Just kidding, Thomas Wayne isn't Arthur's dad after over an hour of us saying he is!! Again, boy that trope got real old real fast.

Similarly to Dunkirk; if I want to watch a film with an unreliable narrator/main character. I'd watch Memento.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my article. I'm probably going to make a part 2 to this article if not many more.
