Monty’s Death in Landman, That Could Be a Game-Changer for Demi Moore

Monty’s Death in Landman, The Twist That Could Be a Game-Changer for Cami

LANDMAN (PARAMOUNT PLUS)

Monty Miller’s (Jon Hamm) health scare might be exactly what *Landman* needs to finally give Demi Moore’s character, Cami, something to do. At the end of episode 9, Monty was dealing with some major heart issues. His heart rate spiked, he looked seriously uncomfortable, and it seemed like he might have died. While Jon Hamm has been a big draw for the show, losing him could actually open the door for Demi Moore to shine and bring more of her star power to the table.

LANDMAN (PARAMOUNT PLUS)

So far, *Landman* has been focused mostly on the Norris family, especially Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) and his struggles as an oil landman. But now that Monty promoted him to Vice President of Operations at M-Tex—and might be out of the picture—the show could take a deeper dive into the corporate side of the oil industry. This could also give Cami a chance to step up and finally become more than just a background character, using Demi Moore’s talent and presence to the show’s advantage.

How Landman Has Underused Demi Moore’s Cami

After nine episodes, it’s clear that *Landman* has barely done anything with Cami. With only one episode left in the season, her character mostly feels like she’s there to fill space in the background. Episodes 8 and 9 gave her a little more to do—worrying about Monty’s health—but even then, there wasn’t much depth. She didn’t even get to react properly to Monty’s heart attack. At one point, Cami doesn’t have a single line of dialogue and just shows up briefly to make a smoothie. When she does speak, her lines rarely move the story forward.

Not every character can be a big focus, but Cami is played by Demi Moore, an Golden Globe award-winning actor with a stellar career. For most of the first season, the show has completely wasted her. They could’ve given her a meatier role, like a sharp attorney (like Rebecca, played by Kayla Wallace) or a nurturing mother figure (like Angela, played by Ali Larter). Instead, Cami has been little more than an afterthought.

Monty’s Possible Death Could Finally Give Demi Moore a Spotlight Moment

If Monty ends up dead, it might actually solve the problem of how little *Landman* has used Demi Moore. Cami would likely have a big emotional moment—either at Monty’s funeral or in a scene with Tommy—giving Moore a chance to flex her acting skills. Even if Monty survives but has to retire, it could still create a situation where Cami has to step up and show some real strength. Either way, this storyline could guarantee at least one standout performance from Moore, giving the show a chance to make up for sidelining her all season.

Could Monty’s Death Mean a Bigger Role for Cami in Season 2?

Monty’s death could also open the door for Cami to take on a much larger role in season 2. With Monty out of the picture, control of M-Tex might pass to her. The next season could explore Cami figuring out how to run a massive oil company and teaming up with Tommy to keep things afloat. Letting her take charge at M-Tex would be a great way to finally make full use of Demi Moore’s talents.

That said, it’s not guaranteed. Cami might just leave the company in Tommy’s hands and focus on taking care of her family instead. If that happens, she could fade into the background again, leaving Tommy and Rebecca to lead M-Tex in season 2. Hopefully, *Landman* will give Demi Moore a real chance to shine in the future, but even if they don’t, Monty’s possible death will at least give her one memorable moment to leave her mark on the show.
