Missing 'Agatha All Along'? Check Out These Other Magical Shows!
More magic!

When a WandaVision spin-off focusing on the character of Agatha Harkness was first announced, some fans doubted the idea, deeming the series as unnecessary, mostly on the grounds that Agatha was a relatively minor figure in comics at the time, and nobody had asked for it. However, Agatha All Along has been a surprise hit for Disney Plus in the back half of 2024, attracting both existing MCU fans and entirely new ones.
Many of these fans are now clamoring for a second season. While Agatha All Along's status as a limited series makes this seem unlikely, the stories of the surviving characters will likely continue in the soon to begin filming Vision Quest series and other upcoming projects.
Until then, try checking out these shows with similar magical themes.
WandaVision
Most viewers of Agatha All Along will already have seen WandaVision, the show it spins off from. However, there is a segment of the fandom who have been drawn in by the witchiness of Agatha first, without having seen other MCU projects. For those fans, it is highly recommended to watch WandaVision.
The first TV series released for the MCU, WandaVision was a different kind of Marvel project, exploring Wanda Maximoff's grief and desire for a normal family life through the lens of classic American sitcoms. It is considered by many to be one of the best projects of Marvel's phase four. Anyone watching specifically for more witchy content may be disappointed, as this doesn't come until the final few episodes, but the series provides useful context for both Agatha and Billy's character journeys.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Airing for seven seasons from the late 90s to the early 2000s, Buffy the Vampire Slayer focuses on Buffy Summers, a teenager who discovers she is The Slayer, the latest in a long line of chosen ones tasked with protecting the world from vampires and other supernatural evil. Learning that her new hometown, Sunnydale, is situated above a Hellmouth and thus a beacon for evil, Buffy builds a group of friends and allies to deal with the threats, among them her best friend Willow Rosenberg, who eventually becomes a powerful witch.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a cult classic for a reason, and groundbreaking for it's time, introducing one of the first long-running lesbian couples on Network television in the form of Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay. It also features a number of iconic episodes, including the silent episode, 'Hush', or the musical episode 'Once More with Feeling', which strikes a perfect balance between silly and serious.
New fans are still discovering Buffy, with new reaction videos for the series popping up on Youtube relatively regularly. If you haven't seen it, now may be a perfec time, and with seven seasons, there's plenty to sink your fangs into.
His Dark Materials
Based on the books by Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials is the tale of Lyra Belacqua, an apparent orphan raised in Jordan College, who discovers she has the gift of reading the Alethiometer, a device that can answer important questions or provide hints towards the future. She leaves the College with the mysterious Mrs. Coulter in the hope of finding her friend Roger, who had been kidnapped by dark forces. Lyra is eventually joined in her adventures by Will Parry, a boy who gains mastery over a magical knife that can cut doors to parallell universes. Both are prophesised to play vital roles in a conflict between the Magisterium, the overtly religious organisation that rules over Lyra's world, and a Resistance led by her Uncle/Biological Father, Lord Asriel.
The people of Lyra's world are constantly accompanied by Daemons, an animal companion that is effectively a piece of one's soul living outside the body. Lyra is also regular aided throughout her adventures by Iorek Byrnison, King of the Armored Bears, and the Witch-Queen, Serafina Pekkala. Witches represent the option of freedom in the face of the Magisterium's oppression.
This series is well worth watching, and considered a worthy adaptation by fans of Pullman's books.
The Sandman
Based on Neil Gaiman's cult classic graphic novels, The Sandman focuses on Dream/Morpheus, one of the seven ancient and powerful Endless. Morpheus, escaping a century of captivity when the series begins, needs to regain his Helm, Ruby, and pouch of sleeping sand, mystical objects that will restore his powers, and the stability of his Kingdom, the Dreaming, which has fallen to ruin in his long absence.
Like Agatha All Along, The Sandman features Death as a character, played by the actress Kirby. Another of the Endless, Death is heavily implied to be Dream's favourite sibling, whom he visits while feeling aimless after the adventure of recovering his artifacts, spending a day with her as she aids various peaceful transitions into the afterlife.
A second season is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2025.
Locke and Key
After the murder of Rendell Locke, his wife Nina Locke moves their children, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode, to Rendell's ancestral family home, Keyhouse. The children soon discover that hidden throughout Keyhouse is a collection of mysterious and magical keys. Unfortunately, youngest child Bode unintentionally releases Dodge, a demon who wants the keys for herself. The Lockes must use the abilities of the keys to protect themselves, while also keeping them out of the wrong hands.
The series ran for three seasons on Netflix, and, as a bonus when anything airs on Netflix, the story was actuallycompleted.
Dead Boy Detectives
Set in the same universe as The Sandman, Dead Boy Detectives is the story of Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne, who, rather than move on after their traumatic deaths as teenagers, remain behind as ghosts to solve supernatural mysteries as the Dead Boy Detective agency. When a case takes them on the road, Edwin accidentally insults the Cat King, leaving the dead boys stranded in a small town until Edwin is able to appease him. Meanwhile, the boys must also help their amnesiac new friend, Krystal, regain her lost memories.
Despite its connection to the successful Sandman series, Netflix recently cancelled Dead Boy Detectives after just one season. However, fans are campaigning hard to save it, including renting a billboard through crowdfunding, so all hope may not be lost.
There's plenty of magic to be found on the small screen, if you know where to look for it.
