Lucky Spencer never had a chance at a decent storyline this time on General Hospital

Several factors were responsible for the lackluster way the character was used in Port Charles.

Lucky says goodbye to Port Charles

It's official, Jonathan Jackson has wrapped up his nine-month stint on General Hospital. He debuted on the show 1991, as 11-year-old Lucky Spencer, the son of super couple Luke and Laura Spencer (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis).

The actor earned three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Younger Actor before leaving the ABC soap in 1999. His exit came because he did not want his character to have premarital sex. Fans loved his pairing with Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) and how they fell in love as teens.

Jackson after GH

Jackson later appeared in films like Tuck Everlasting and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. He was also in television series like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Nashville.

At one point, he lived abroad and said he did not know if he would ever return to the state or appear on the ABC soap again. He did return several times for short stints.

Lucky and Liz were never intimate

General Hospital viewers were excited when the actor returned last year but were disappointed that his relationship with Liz did not work out and that Lucky did not have more exciting scenes.

If Jackson has the same views today about Lucky not having sex outside of marriage, this would explain why he and Liz were never intimate. They were interrupted by knocks on her door, or he fell asleep on her couch.

Since Jackson was not brought back long-term, Lucky could not put down roots. For nine months, he seemed like a bystander watching others in Port Charles live their lives. Initially, there was promise when Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) was holding Lucky and Dr. Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson) captive, and they made their great escape.

Lucky remained on the sidelines

Since returning to Port Charles, Lucky's life has been on the sidelines watching the drama unfold around him. He kept Kristina Corinthos Davis's (Kate Mansi) secret that she cut the brake line on Ric Lansing's (Rick Hearst) vehicle, but did not spend a lot of time with his sister Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Brueing) or his mother Laura Collins (Genie Francis).

He has basically been hanging out with Liz and sleeping on her couch. When Greg Vaughan took over the role, Lucky had issues. He was on drugs and having an affair with Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). It's clear Jonathan Jackson is beloved and always welcome back on General Hospital. The writers don't seem to know what to do with the character.

Rena Sofer returned as Lois Cerullo after portraying Quinn Fuller Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful. She was put in the middle of teh Quartermaine drama and given a meaty storyline that now seems to have ended.

Lucky and Liz never had a chance

Liz and Lucky discussed their relationship and decided that she was a hometown girl and did not desire to uproot from Port Charles. Lucky had to admit that he was a free spirit who liked to roam. Jackson's character did not even spend a lot of time with his friend Isaiah, which some fans thought was odd.

Lucky revealed to Liz that Kristina caused the car crash that injured her and it appears Nurse Webber will keep silent, at least for now. Jonathan Jackson confirmed his stint as Lucky is over. Ironically, Sidwell and Dr. Gannon, who are in Port Charles because of him, appear to be staying.

Be watching for updates on what Lucky's portrayer will be doing next and spoilers related to Kristina and the car crash. General Hospital viewers are also wondering who the next man Liz falls for will be. Whoever he is, they will probably have romantic scenes so stay tuned.
