LEGO Creator Santa Polybag 30573 Review
A LEGO Seasonal Set Review

Today we will be taking a closer look at the Creator Santa set number 30573. This set came out in 2019, has 67 pieces, and was designed for people 6 and up.
This Creator polybag was available for free with a minimum purchase of $50 dollars or more at the LEGO Store or LEGO.com. It could also be purchased at Target and other reatail stores for $3.99. I picked up my set at Target and then put it in my own stocking.

Santa is a great character to create sets around. Father Christmas not only has an iconic outfit that can and has been built in dozens of different ways, but his tradition of giving gifts to good boys and girls allows for lots of fun side build. For this LEGO set, a brick built Santa Claus is building a toy train in his workshop. He has one present wrapped and ready to be delivered.
The Gift

This particular Santa set came with 1 wrapped present and a toy train on a table. The wrapped present was made with two 2x2 green jumper plates, 1 red 2X2 plate and a 1X1 gold round plate. There are so many different holiday sets that have been created over the years and I always admire how LEGO has been able to make the simple present in hundreds of unique ways. The use of 2 2X2 jumper plates instead of a normal plate with 4 studs on the bottom and jumper plate on top got me interested in LEGO’s piece selection process. Whatever their reason, I like that we get two green jumper plates, which are less common than your standard 2X2 plates.
The Workbench and Toy Train

The train on a table instantly made me think of Santa’s workshop. It shows the power of imagination that LEGO is able to inspire with a simple prop piece. I didn’t need to see an entire room, the suggestion of a train being built on a table instantly transported me to this location. I loved the 1 x 1 - 1 x 1 Medium Blue Bracket for the front of the train. This particular piece and color was only found in 7 sets at the time of its release. The use of medium blue colors makes me think of this as being an old style wooden train and not a plastic toy.
Stana Claus

The Santa model was rather simple in its design, which makes it great for younger builders. The sets uses common bricks, plates and slopes to build the character. I like the use of the Inverted 45 2X1 slope pieces used for his legs a lot. I think the use of the pearl gold 1X1 round plate for his belt buckle is interesting. The color and shape are nice for the buckle, but creates and odd gap in the black belt strap. I do like the use of the white 1X1 round plate for the ball on the end of his hat. I keep going back and forth on his small square hands. It works for the LEGO build but at a quick glance it looks like Santa is missing his hands. The spanner wrench screwdriver accessory did not work for me. To me this tool belongs in an automotive garage and not a toy workshop.

Conclusion
Overall, this was a fun little set and made for a great stocking stuffer. However, the simple builds and lack of any truly unique pieces makes it forgettable for those looking to build a LEGO collection or use pieces for their own creations. If you missed out on this set, you can probably built it with the pieces you already have from your collection.
