Ever Wondered Why Marvel Films Are Released in the UK First?
It's a strange (and wonderful) quirk of cinema nowadays that the big films seem to be released first outside of the US. Beginning with Iron Man 2, all of the Marvel films have been released in the UK a week before their American release dates. In the past, when the world was black and white and there was no such thing as the internet, we Brits would have to wait months, or even a year after the American release dates of films to see them in cinemas. The only realistic way we would get to see the films early was if they were on a tiny screen on a long-haul flight.

Why Iron Man 3 Was Actually A Great Movie
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now a beloved and behemoth franchise, and Marvel took a great risk by starting it all with Iron Man. But, boy, did it pay off! The now Disney owned goliath has had Iron Man at it's heart since it's inception; however, the fans seem to write off this three-quel as one of the worst to come out of Marvel's cinematic universe.

Holy Half-Century, Batman! 'Batman: The Movie' Turns 50
It's hard to believe, but one of the pioneering superhero TV shows is now half a century old. Batman: The Movie is of course the feature-length version of the 1960's Batman series and it was released 50 years ago. The series was extraordinarily popular and was described on the PBS television show Science Fiction as "the biggest TV phenomenon of the mid-1960s." It might not be to everyone's tastes, particularly in an age where we have so many excellent superhero films and TV shows to enjoy, but the show certainly has a lasting legacy.

Live In The LA Area? Then You Have to Check Out The Perky Nerd
You know what's better than comic books, coffee, and tabletop gaming? Being able to have all those things at the same time. That was the concept behind The Perky Nerd, a newly opened comic book store and coffee shop in Burbank, CA. It's only been open for about six weeks and it's already making its mark in the local area with great events like its Geek Pride Day trivia extravaganza held this weekend. I was lucky enough to be in attendance and I vaguely crushed it at nerd trivia. My team, which we named "Anakin and the Midi-cholrians," didn't win but that's only because the room was filled with trivia savvy nerds. Also, there were a lot of GoT questions and for some reason no one in my team watches that show.

An Appreciation: "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" (1987)
"You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right, I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you... but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me; I'm not changing. I like... I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me. 'Cause I'm the real article. What you see is what you get."The late John Candy as Del Griffith.

Get To Know The Brand New 'Walking Dead' Season 7 Characters
Now that The Walking Dead is onto Season 7, the character list for the series is bigger than ever before. Back in 2010 the season ended with just a handful of characters stuck on a highway, and this season it we have multiple communities full of people interacting.

Did Anyone Spot Johnny Depp On This Week's 'The Walking Dead'?
In arguably what was one of the best episodes ever, The Walking Dead certainly ramped up the tension this week... but still no Negan. Forget the bloodshed, the bullets, and the beheadings, there is one talking point we should really be addressing, because someone looked awfully familiar. That's right, episode 12, 'No Tomorrow Yet,' had a cameo (of sorts) from the one and only Johnny Depp!

"Cat Got Your Tongue?" and 9 Other Idiom Origins
Being a huge movie fan, I know there have been many idioms in movies that have slipped by me without much notice. And with approximately 25,000 idioms in the English language, that's a lot of non-literal words being said. So, while many of us may understand the gist of these phrases (more or less), their historical backgrounds may come as a surprise to you. My goal is to look at some of the more common idioms used in movies and take a look at their historical origins.
