Justice for the Justice League
The underrated world of DC comics animated movies.

In this article we’re going to be learning about a side of the DC universe that most movie watchers never touch. I understand that many of you are probably at the end of what to binge watch with the difficult times keeping many people at home. But in these troubled times, a little escapism can go a long way. So, if you need a break or even need regain a little faith in the promise of what America was supposed to be, these animated titles from warner brothers are absolutely worth a look.
This guide will be brief. There are so many of these wonderful movies that it would take a very long time to go into depth on all of them. But this article will show you a few of the best from this collection.

Hush is one of the perennial classics of DC comics. And much like the successful Marvel Comic movies it is also a genre film (for instance, Winter Solider was a spy film, Spiderman Homecoming was a rom com, ect.) Hush is a solid whodunnit. It feels so far from the tone of the DC Cinematic Universe that the two seem to share character names only. But if you are interested a suspenseful action packed thriller that has the same joy of chasing clues that National Treasure had and a similar "will they/wont they" romance, then consider giving it a watch.

The cover of Batman Vs Robin does absolutely nothing to explain or advertise the fantastic storyline contained within it. This is Warner Animation's take on one of the most beloved story lines of the past decade, The Court of Owls. For the most part many of the DC movies don't need much in the way of prior knowledge in order for the movies to be enjoyable. This movie however, assumes that you know one thing. This particular Robin is Batman's actual son. The father and son dynamic is a refreshing change on the normal Batman and Robin dynamic but it also is only one piece of the overall story contained in the movie. At it's heart Batman Vs Robin is a conspiracy movie. If there is one thing that is common knowledge about Batman, its that he knows his city (Gotham) well. For a conspiracy to go unnoticed by the world's greatest detective it would have to be well protected, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Don't bother asking what "Justice League Dark" means before you watch this movie. It's just DC's magic squad. Like Marvel's Dr. Strange, there are some elements of horror punctuated with humor and lots of magical spells popping off every 5 minutes. But the story is there. And the ensemble cast, (even if you haven't heard of some of them) are extremely straight forward in their role in the story. Despite how niche the cover art makes it seem, the first movie (of two in the series) is fairly accessible to audiences who have written off cartoons as being just for kids. And it can be summed up by a single observation: "John Constantine is hilarious".
I hope these selections help make your day more interesting as we search for more content outside of our normal wheel house to consume during these dark days.
