Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Dropped in Quality, and Here’s What Went Wrong

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 had a remarkable opening, with its first two episodes being exceptionally well-made. We got two back-to-back episode releases, and the way it was produced left everyone awestruck. However, when Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 episode 3 dropped, it was very apparent that this particular episode was not that great. It was filled with details, and the pacing was hard to get through. But is it because the quality of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 dropped, or was this a necessary strategy for the makers to prepare the audience for what’s to come?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 1 Was Great

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 premiered with two of the greatest episodes ever, as the animation from start to finish was breathtaking. MAPPA went off with their work, and it was apparent that they had given their all while producing these segments. There is also the added factor that episode 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 was released in the theatres as a part of the compilation film Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, where it also included a recap of the Shibuya Incident.

It is a proven truth that whenever an anime gets made for the theatres, the production budget is always better than it is for a normal series. Because the return on investment for a theatre release is much more than a digital one, this makes sense. Thus, this segment, which showcased the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident, got special care, and that comes alive, specifically in the fight between Naoya and Choso.

Every panel of this fight looks gorgeous, and the animators even added extra scenes of Naoya, who is literally aura farming most of the time. But that is not all, even the sections where Yuta was fighting Yuji were really well choreographed.

What went wrong with Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 3?

Now, the reason episode 3 was not up to par was pretty bizarre. It got one of the lowest ratings of this season, and that is precisely because it was crammed with information. The animation here was pretty good considering what it showcased. It did not have any fighting sequences and mostly relied on Tensen talking to the characters about the culling game and what Kenjaku’s real goals are. As it was mostly an episode where a lot of conversing was happening, the Japanese dub fans had to rely on reading the subtitles, a feature not many viewers are fans of.

The episode also felt more monotonous because the characters were doing little more than standing around while Tensen talked, and they replied. Though it was an important episode for the culling game arc, the makers could have streamlined all the information they were planning to give and added other things to make the viewing experience more interesting. But again, this does not mean that the episode itself was bad, and whatever visual quality we saw with what we were given was satisfactory enough.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 4 Prediction

I believe from episode 4 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, we will get to see Maki preparing for her clash with the Zenin clan. She left the Zenin clan a long time back, and now she plans to return not only take cursed tools but also confront all the clan members. Technically, Megumi is the clan head, but we all know Naoya will not sit by idly and let Megumi or Maki take anything. Hence, unlike episode 3, episode 4 should be much better and way more action-packed.
